From Booklist: the second installment in his new series, the Women's Murder Club, which focuses on four females—a police detective, a medical examiner, an assistant DA, and a reporter—who team up to solve grizzly murder cases. Lindsay Boxer, newly made lieutenant, is called to the scene of a shooting that leaves a 12-year-old African American girl dead. When her friend, reporter Cindy Thomas, connects the killing to another murder that appears racially motivated, Lindsay is convinced that the department has a hate crime on its hands. But the subsequent murder of two police officers reveals that the truth about the killer is much more complex than they first realized. Following the only lead they have—a symbol depicting a creature with two lion heads—takes them back to a decades-old crime that has a surprising connection to Lindsay. While she deals with this case and tries to recover from the death of her lover, Lindsay is also contending with the reappearance of her father, who abandoned the family when Lindsay was a child. WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Received this in the mail from a fellow BCer through BookRelay's "2 word only" category. Thanks, Mark!
This was rather good, and the killer's identity took me totally by surprise. But some of the coincidences were rather far-fetched and there was too much filler at times. Patterson seems to have lost his sharp edge; after having just finished this and "Black Friday" (wretched novel! don't waste your time!), I think I'm going to leave ol' Jamie alone for awhile and let him recoup that once-awesome edge-of-your-seat-suspense ability he seems to have let slip...
Sending to Breeze144 through www.BookRelay.com's "2 Days or Replace, U.S. only" relay.
I hope you enjoy it, B!
Arrived safe and sound in Buffalo, NY today.
I'll be passing it on to Bree at the next Oakville meetup.
Picked this up today from Morsie! Thank you BA for sharing and thank you Karen for being such a sweet friend and receiving my books!!!
Good but not great. I don't like the way Patterson writes the "girl's" friendships. It seems to forced.
Released to Canadian Diabetes Association fundraiser!
