Registered for the Race to Three Million Registered Books Challenge.
This was from Grandad's pile of books. It was first published in 1956, but this copy was published by The Reprint Society in 1957.
The language was rather stilted and a little down pat for me, but perhaps this was just part of the character that narrated the story.
"Tom Rath, the man in the grey flannel suit, found himself a paratrooper at the early age of twenty-one; was responsible for the death of his best friend in action; had an affaire with an Italian girl when on short leave; came back to find a job and had to renew his war-broken married life."
It is somewhat a moral story, and the main character, Tom Rath, narrates the story almost as if he is talking out loud while he reflects on past and recent events, and hopes for the future.
