This took a while for me to get into, and I nearly put it down. It is about espionage, spies and terrorists. I was surprised to find that it was published in 1980, as I thought on reading that it was a much earlier book based on the language used and stereotypes. For example, women are to be protected and or get in the way of best laid plans by men.

All in all, I found it a good read. It certainly got to a point where I didn't want to put it down until I had finished.

I didn't notice the synopsis stuck into the back cover until I had finished reading, but here it is:

"Student terrorists mysteriously financed, senior secret agency officials setting up Interintell to counter the international threat, and caught between them Nina O'Connell, studying art in London, shut out of her father's life by his new marriage and his busy Washington career. Nina impulsively joins a group to drive around the world in a custom-built caravan, undeterred by the warnings of the attractive Nato officer who once helped a susceptible school girl to improve her tennis game.

From the first scene -- a meeting of the leaders of an urban guerrilla cell in Germany -- to a breathtaking finale in Washington, this swift adventure sustains an irresistible tension. The Hidden Target finds Helen MacInnes at the top of her form."

I haven't read any books by MacInnes before, so this was a first. I'm not sure that I will seek them out in future, but I was happy to read this as it was available for me to pick up and read.

I was walking along the shore of the Swan River in PErth when I noticed the book placed on the bench. I carried on walking but on my return past the bench I decided to have a look. I sat and read the book for a while and then brough it home to Two Rocks with me. It isn't the type of book that I would choose. I will place it in a suitable location to be acarried away once again.
