in the beginning, the main character looks to be destined for success as arrives in the fashion industry of new york. confined by society's expectations, her experience is similar to that of winona ryder's character in "girl, interrupted." knowing that this book is a confessional of plath's own suicide attempts makes it even more powerful. not exactly uplifting, but an interesting perspective into the mind of a mentally ill young woman.
