Nicholas Berg was once the master of a great shipping company. Now he is down to one ship--the oceangoing salvage tug "Warlock"--and one last chance to pull himself back fromt he brink of ruin. The "Golden Adventurer" has been driven onto the rocky coast of South Africa by a storm . . . if Berg and the "Warlock" can reach her, he can claim a fortune in salvage fees and start his climb back to the top of the shipping business. And that's when the real danger will begin.

I read this years ago, and remember it as the best of Smith's trademark blend of adventure and romance in exotic places. It doesn't *quite* manage the gritty realism of Farley Mowat's _Gray Seas Under_ or the nautical detail of Douglas Reeman, but it's grand fun.
