The Five People You Meet in Heaven
9 journalers for this copy...
On his 83rd Birthday, Eddie, a lonely war veteran, dies in a tragic accident trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. With his final breath, he feels two small hands in his - and then nothing. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden but a place where your earthly life is explained to you bu five people who were in it. These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path for ever.

I picked this book up to read as part of the ARC challenge but I can honestly say I didnt think I would actually read it. The cover is very unappealing. I wonder if it effected sales. Anyway I was groping beside the bed the other night for something to read because I had left my current books upstairs (hey it was cold...) and I grabbed this. I was hooked after the first couple of pages. I read and read and found I was plowing through this little miracle at a faster rate than I cared too. I didn't want to skim a word or miss a detail. What can I say, this book really touched me and I encourage everyone to read it.
If this is heaven, then it where I hope I go when my time is up.
Perfect.

Oh, my lord. This book was AMAZING. Like one of the quotes on the inside jacket, this book is destined to be a classic, and an American fable. It's a short little thing, but really hits the spot; I experienced amusement, joy, sadness, despair, pity and ultimate satisfaction throughout, and can't really recommend it more than that. A lovely read. Thank you so much, SarahBear! I'm off to send it to the next person on the list. :) xoxo Pammy

This arrived during the week and I have already read a few chapters. It's very easy to read and the opening pages had me interested immediately. I agree that the cover is terrible!

A very gentle read, not life changing for me but very sweet. I enjoyed the theme park setting and I loved the final paragraph and the idea that 5 people might be waiting for me.
I will send on as soon as I have kzel's details.

Sorry about the delay with journalling this - I picked it up Saturday two weeks ago, but I've been working some crazy hours and have only just gotten the time to jump on the net. I'll try to read asap and get it onto the next person.
A simply written, but thought provoking read. I think it is something you could read over and over, and get something new from it each time.
Thanks for sharing!

A thousand apologies for holding up this ring. I was packing up my study early this morning, and found this book, along with a couple of others down behind my desk (no thanks to my kitties, no doubt). Anyway, I apologise again. I have pm'd the next person in line, and will post as soon as I have an address.

Thanks for the book, which arrived during the week. I didn't realise it was written by the "Tuesdays with Morrie" author - not that I've read that, either, but it's a connection...!
Got a few books I need to read through before this, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for the book, Sarah.
It was a very simple read, though the subject matter isn't simple. I think it's a really interesting suggestion that there's five people who can offer revelation and restoration for the situations we might not have understood in life.
I enjoyed the careful stitching Mitch Albom made of the interconnectedness of people in and around Eddie's life. I think the idea is a good one, though I thought the execution was a little simple. I would have been more satisfied with greater character development and the kind of complexity and shades of gray we see in our own lives. Then again, that raises the question of whether that complexity exists in reality or only in our minds. A thought for another day.
I didn't like the book enough to plan on reading it again, but I did like it well enough to look out for Tuesdays with Morrie; the excerpt in the back has me interested.
This book is moving on...

Thanks Scarlet Rubies for sending this on and Sarahbear for starting the Ring. Received in the Post today.
What a wonderful read!Kept alittle longer than planned as my partner insisted on reading it also. Sentiments the same. Now onto 9moons.
Received, and fast-tracked to the top of the bedside pile.
My sentiments echo most of the others on here - a lovely, quick little read; a nice idea, touching, sentimental, wistful. But it lacked a certain oomph; it needs to pack a little more punch to class it as a "must-read" for me.
Don't get me wrong - I cried! But although it moved me, I predict I'll be over it within a day or two...
Thanks sarahbear for offering it up.
