i just finished reading this book fewer than five minutes ago. it was entertaining, but maybe because i've read so much palahniuk latley and am just a bit tired of his voice i didn't enjoy it as much as i otherwise would have. however, as i said, it was entertaining, and i did especially get to liking it toward the end when all the fragments of the story start to come together.

Journal Entry 6 by detailista from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 3, 2006
Great timing, just finishing another bookring so will get started with this one in the next day or two. Thanks stubee and lizzy-stardust. I've been really looking forward to this book.

Journal Entry 7 by detailista from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Saturday, May 13, 2006
Wicked and dark, laugh-out-loud funny. Some of the topics here touched raw nerves with a tickle stick :)

Can't help imagining this all happening on the screen. I guess he must write with film in mind since Fight Club. Has the tightness and pace of a script to me. I loved the tactile details.

I'll definately get this for permanent collection.

Posting to Safrolistics tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

Journal Entry 9 by Safrolistics from Newbiggin-By-The-Sea, Northumberland United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 17, 2006
Received today from detailista, along with a lovely postcard.
Typicaly it arrived in the same post as another bookring! I'll have to toss a coin to see which I start first!

Journal Entry 10 by Safrolistics from Newbiggin-By-The-Sea, Northumberland United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 24, 2006
Just finished this one.
A top read, defo one of his better ones.
They certainly are a disfunctional family, and knowing Palahniuk you know there's a twist coming, but just as you think you've got to the twist, then BAM another even more improbable twist comes along!
Just waiting for redjanet's addy and I'll send it on....

First off, I should say that I agree with lizzy-stardust above when she says that too much Palahniuk can make you tire of his voice somewhat. However, it had been a while since I had read anything of his when I started this and so I found myself thoroughly enjoying his style all over again. It seemed so refreshing. I loved the repetitions, I loved the in-depth descriptions of horrific things and I loved the (apparently) intricately researched factual stuff. This novel has a great pace and enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Add to that the usual mix of truly off the wall characters that Palahniuk somehow manages to make believable, and you've got yourself a really excellent read. It's not for the squeamish though. Seriously.

With Palahniuk novels, I always reach the end wanting to re-read them so this time I'll understand what's going on! Took a while to get into this one, but once the twists started coming thick and fast, things got really interesting. A seriously disturbing book! (but that's a good thing :-))

was packed away from a move and just resurfaced, was amazing, not my favorite Palahniuk novel but it is hard to compete with the likes of choke, lullabye, and survivor. chuck just seems to find a way to bring such amazing characters to life and have you feel for his fantastic anti-heros. will be sending on to next reader shortly. also wondering if people wanted to start another Palahniuk bookring of Haunted which is another amazing novel
