From Booklist:
J. P. Donleavy, Nicholas Delbanco, and Dave Barry are among the 36 writers represented in this collection of droll travel tales. A baboon joins one travel writer in Zimbabwe for breakfast and refuses to leave. A French language class in Paris redefines the foundation of Christianity with a discussion of the Easter bunny. Another writer, warned not to tell the Vietnamese that he is divorced, invents intricate stories to explain his ex-wife's "accidental death." A fourth writer reflects on the subject of bad haircuts around the world, and another one tells of getting to the airport an hour early and then almost missing the plane. These stories are humorous, indeed. In a few cases the reader may have gone through a similar agonizing experience--one that was not the least bit funny at the time, but comical to look back on.

I was hiking in Black Hills Regional Park when I came across a book in a bag. My boyfriend likes to pick up trash when we hike and throw it away when we are done and I spotted a plastic bag just off the trail and told him to go get it. He went and exclaimed, "There's a book inside!" It actually was a different book than this one, but we took the book, and then later came across yet another book in a plastic bag! This book looked more interesting than the first, so we took the second book and left the first one we had found in it's place for someone else. We later saw a THIRD book, and went to inspect, but it didn't look very interesting, so we left it.
This book is pretty funny. I recommend it =)

I picked this up at a library book sale recently and didn't realize it was a BC book until I had registered it myself and went to put the sticker inside, only to discover there was already one there. Now have to figure out how to delete my registration, but in the meanwhile, how exciting to come across a BC book all unsuspecting!

Just finished this one and it was good for a few laughs and some wry grins and some head shaking. A nice change from other books of late. The Dave Barry piece on Ireland cracked me up -- I think he captured the Irish quite well -- it reminded me of some of the stories in Ray Bradbury's Green Shadows, White Whale. And I had to both laugh at and identify with the guy who tried to follow a fellow traveler's tip on how to save 100 baht in Thailand and ended up spending 1,470 baht to do so.

Trying to decide between sending this as a RABCK and wild releasing.
