Recieved this paperback from jokey this week and am halfway through. Maybe my memory isn't correct but " I know why the caged bird sings" was so much better.

I sent this on to vc-mike today maybe his wife will like it?

Maya lived a full life by the time she was 18, having been a cook, chef, saleslady, Madam, all while having a baby boy! she moved a lot between the deep South, San Francisco & Los Angeles, CA, USA ! when she falls in love, it's with a man who makes Maya fall in love with him, then tricks her into 'turning tricks' to help get him out of gambling debts. The only thing is he doesn't have any debts, so he just wanted her to be a 'hooker' to earn him more money for his 'houses of ill repute' ! Maya loses her son because of family illness, when a co-worker
prostitute steals him, while Maya is checking on her families illness!! Does Maya get her son & freedom back? You'll just have to read it to see !!
