"Until that September of 1952, Luke Chandler had never kept a secret or told a single lie. But in the long, hot summer of his seventh year, two groups of migrant workers-and two very dangerous men-cane through the Arkansas Delta to work the Chandler cotton farm."

OH MY GOD! I was sooo excited to get this book in the mail, thank you sooo much for sending it to me Gullinaarr as part of the Holiday Wishlist forum! I have never read a Grisham book before and am very excited to read it. I will be adding it to my Mt TBR, but promise I will read it sooner than later. I will start it out as a bookring if there is any interest.

I expected more from this book knowing Grisham writes thrillers. It seemed like it took awhile to get through it, I thought it would be a book filled with non stop action and just pull you in. There were a few major events that happened in the book and I thought they would be the focal point, but those events were somewhat secondary and every day life took the front seat. I must admit that I got sick of the baseball talk and did skim over those paragraphs. It was an enjoyable read, I just wish it had more of a bang to it (if that makes sense?!)

I'll mail this off to bellamack on Dec 1st.

This is the third of three bookrings to arrive today, I am reading as fast as I can but it may take me a little while to get through them all!
However, I am looking forward to this one as well :)

I greatly enjoyed this book, I knew it wasn't one of his thrillers but when I picked it up the writing drew me in and I had a few late nights where I had trouble putting it down :)
I feel that I understand a lot more about American life during that time, it was a very interesting insight into cotton farming and general farm life during that time. A really wonderful read, thanks everyone for giving me the opportunity to read it.
I expect to post this home over the weekend.

Bookring completed, it made its way back to me! I'll hold on to it and either add it to a bookbag I belong to or take it to the next meet up.
