Fantastic with a capital F. Best book I have read so far this year. An age old tale, but aren't they all...? I loved the setting in Afghanistan, loved all the names of the places. I guess some of it reminded me of growing up and seeing Afghanistan on the news; powerful stuff.
Very well written, great prose. I will definatley be on tenterhooks now awaiting Khaled Hosseini's new novel due out in October.
Will have to share this with my parents (who probably won't journal it)and will then do a bookring or something.
Just brilliant.... Thanks nona35 for getting me this for my birthday. You are a star!

Journal Entry 4 by Nell-Lu from Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 9, 2006
This just arrived, along with a great postcard (I've never been to Portsmouth) and a sachet of turkish delight hot chocolate. Yummy! I will really enjoy settling down to read this book with a mug of hot chocolate. Thanks, StoryChaser.

I'm a bit inundated with bookrings and rays at the moment (this is the seventh that has arrived since Saturday), so it will take me a little while to get to this. I'm part way through Death of a Superhero at the moment, then have four others to read before I can start The Kite Runner. I will get onto it late next week and get it on its way as soon as I can.

I enjoyed The Kite Runner a lot. A great story, believable characters, emotional involvement, and very smooth, evocative writing - what more could a reader ask for? I finished it off last night, sitting on the sofa, drinking turkish delight hot chocolate - thanks StoryChaser! What a treat.

I've got this packaged up for Moontree and will take it to the Post Office this afternoon.

Journal Entry 6 by newcastlemarga from Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom on Saturday, May 27, 2006
This arrived this morning, along with a beautiful card and a lemon green tea bag. Thanks, Nell-Lu! I don't have any other book rings waiting, so I'll make a start on this as soon as I've finished my current book.

A fantastic and moving novel. There was one point I felt the plot wasn't quite believable, but the rest of it was so good, and so emotionally involving that it didn't really matter. A fascinating insight into Afghanistan too. (And the lemon tea was really nice - thanks!)

I'll put this in the post to Molyneux tomorrow morning.

Journal Entry 8 by Molyneux from Oxford, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Sunday, June 18, 2006
Arrived a couple of days ago - thank you moontree! Thanks also for the for the postcard of Greyfriar's Bobby, it brought back lovely memories of my Grandmother who I remember telling me this story over and over again when I was very young!

I have a couple of very busy weeks so unlikely to get to this until the beg of July, but have been looking fwd to reading this book for ages since my sister has been raving about it!

Journal Entry 9 by Molyneux from Oxford, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Saturday, September 2, 2006
I was just sorting through my tbr pile to find I had a ring book still...so sorry for holding everything up! I'm not going to get chance to read it soon so will post it onto Jaycee1972 as soon as I have her address.

Oh, wow, what a brilliant book! Goes to the top of my 2006 reads. It just got more and more compelling as it went on. But terribly sad, I'm still wiping away the tears. Nothing much more I can say that the others haven't said already, apart from adding my thanks to Storychaser for the ring.
Will be off to Spiritinflight when I can get to the post office.

Update 15/12: Just checked my PO receipts and I actually posted this to Canada on 21st October.

Have sent this to the lostbookisland, as it seems to be missing in action:(

Journal Entry 14 by lostbookisland on Saturday, April 7, 2007
This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.

All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.

It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.
