The Book of Laughter and Forgetting : Revised Edition
3 journalers for this copy...
Maybe later...for now available.
This book arrived safely (along with two other surprise books!) from Blackcats-Books. Thanks for the trade!
I really enjoyed this book. It seems to be a mix of short stories interspersed with autobiographical or memoir-ish sections. Very interesting and very political. I learned a lot about the political history of Czechoslovakia.
One of the observations made in the book is that when everyone is talking (or writing) no one is listening (or reading). Society needs talkers and listeners, or we need to take turns talking and listening (or writing and reading). A quote that really rings true, especially these days when blogging is so popular, is: "Once the writer in every individual comes to life (and that time is not far off), we are in for an age of universal deafness and lack of understanding." Let's hope not.
