Wow - in the beginning, I had a hard time getting into the book, but then it just hooked me. It was an amazing read - the only thing I thought was lacking was more info on her recovery.

Received this book on Saturday and started reading it right away, At first i was very upset at how blunt this book was about the rape but as i read on i learned that this was her way to deal. But i was a little disturbed at this book but in the end i was glad that she stood up for herself. i will be sending this on to the next person on the list as soon as i get a response from my PM. Thanks for the chance to read this book.

Wow. What a powerful read. I had started this book last fall but returned it to the library because the first chapter upset me so much. Now I was able to read about what happened to Ms. Sebold, and how she flew over the saddness and tragedy of her mother's depression and her rape. I also have new respect for her teachers who stood by her at this time, Tess Gallagher and Tobias Wolff. If you only know Ms. Sebold from Lovely Bones, read this memoir. You will be shaken to the core.

Release planned for Monday, June 02, 2003 at To a fellow Bookcrosser in Pleasant Hill, California USA.

Off to the next person on the book ray!

I just finished the book, Its a really powerful story.
The way she described the rape was so shocking and the fact that it never goes away and the way people treat you afterwards, I found it so true and sad...

I finished reading this yesterday and will be sending it on to the next person on the list (hopefully tomorrow). The first chapter is very rough to get through as it's about the actual rape. But then it gets a little easier to handle as it works through her recovery and court appearances. The part that grabs me was her life years afterwards with all the drugs and boyfriends. I wonder if the rape affected that ... if her life would have turned out differently under different circumstances. Makes one wonder about all circumstances in life (ones you have control over and ones you can't prevent) ... how they affect your entire life .... or your reaction to them and dealing with them. I was also intrigued by everyone else's reaction to the rape ... her family and friends ... the police ... even complete strangers. I feel I learned a lot from reading this book.

Just received this in the mail...it will be my "spare minute" reading as I am chilling inbetween classes and working on final projects. On a side note, I released a book at school yesterday (my first for this location) it sat around for a day, but then someone new caught it...I'm so happy about the fast and successful catch! (However, they choose "lodaBS" as their screenname...so I'm wondering what that's all about.) Anyhow, I have avoided picking Lucky up for myself, because I thought the topic would be too much, but after many friends said it was an uplifting and good read, I'm happy to be on this ring and giving it a go. Yes, the first ten pages really hook you. Later, Beth.

Right now I'm finding it hard to read this one. I'll keep plugging away at it. I have about another week, before I'll have been holding on to it for too long. Anyhow, it's not the issue of rape--it's the fact that it's a memoir. Much of my own past I tend to want to forget. And Alice is bringing so much of it back just through telling her story. I'm used to the easy, linear format of fiction. But as I said, I'm going to keep going....

Question: Which list is the order to go by? The list with the book, or the one on the journal page. I'm figuring the online version, but I want to make sure. Thanks!

I liked her book! It was amazing to think the whole time that this really happened to her... how it destroyed her and how it reinvented her.
