I loved this book. The story was engrossing and I didn't want it to end. Philippa Gregory brought the Tudor Court into my loungeroom and made it real. I got involved with the characters, specially Mary the storyteller. The bawdiness of the court and the ambition of the Howard/Boleyn family was very interesting. The power of the King (Henry) and the way the families used their virginal daughters to seduce him and increase their power was frightening. I know this was fiction, but I think it painted a fairly true picture of life in that era. Childbirth was shown as particularly difficult and risky. I was interested to learn a little about three of Henry's wives (Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour).

Picked this up at last nights meetup, Meganh recommended it to me (we swapped historical fiction books!) so I'll report back once I've read it. :)

This book was recommended to me by both meganh and fushmush, both people who seem to have similair reading tastes to my own. It is therefore no surprise that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as meganh said it gave me an insight as to what life may have been like in Tudor times. Certainly sounds like the women had to keep their men happy (be they husbands, uncles or kings) during these times otherwise various kinds of havoc would be wrought upon you.

I liked Philippa Gregory''s writing so much I''ve since bought two more of her books.

I really enjoyed this book! Far, far more than I expected. I mean, it had been highly recommended to me, but I've had bad experiences with historical fiction... this, however, was not one of those.
I'll be re-releasing it at the Royal Melbourne tonight.

Really, really enjoyed this one! Took me away from long haul flights, and has inspired me to finally visit the Tower in London in a few weeks!

Interesting perspectie, from Mary, and a brush up on my Tudor history!
