This book was passed to me by a friend (one that's been on my wishlist for a while), who asked me to pass it on when I've finished with it - sooooooooooo I'm going to give her the BCID so she can join bookcrossing and make a journal entry on here and also see where the book travels....

Here is what it says on the back cover!

The story of a girl who needs to slow down. To find herself. To fall in love. And to discover what an iron is for...

Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenelin. Until one day.... she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge, it'll wreck her career.

She walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they've hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158 - Samantha has no idea how to work the oven.

Disaster ensues. It's chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine.... ironing board... and attempts to cook a cordon bleu dinner. But gradually, she falls in love with her new life in a wholly unexpected way.

Will her employers ever discover the truth? Will Samantha's old life ever catch up with her? And if it does will she want it back??

This was a really funny and quick read! I found the character to be very similar in ways to Becky in the Shopaholic series (not a bad thing). I found myself reading very late in to the night trying to read more. I can't spoil the book for others, so I can't say what I 'hoped' would have happened at the end LOL

This book is now off on it's travels, hope others enjoy it as much as I did!!

Journal Entry 8 by Tuftynut from St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex United Kingdom on Tuesday, April 4, 2006
I started this book yesterday on the train going to work in the City, maybe not the best book to read in that situation - I desparately wanted to head for Paddington and take off for a life unknown.

I really enjoyed reading this although maybe that was because it just suits my current state of mind so well.

Ready for Heathwitch when I have her address.

RELEASE NOTES:

On its way to Heathwitch with Royal Mail.......... Hope you you enjoy the book.

This was a fabulous read! Nice and fast -- and totally unputdownable! I stormed my way through it, loving the characters, the plot and totally understanding where the protagonist's confusion and yearning for a calmer life comes from :) And it was all too easy to see how she'd gotten herself into so much mess, but to adore her for the way she fought to straighten everything out. The love interest was brilliant and the secondary characters well-crafted. I loved the punch toward the end, and was shrieking with delight. I'm definitely finding a copy of this for my personal collection. A delight!

Sending onto wubbaducky today. :)

I've just read Girls Night Out which I found disappointing so I wasn't expecting much from another chick lit book and found myself very pleasantly surprised. I've never read Kinsella before and although I'm not sure I'd go and read her Shopaholic series, if she wrote another standalone, I could be tempted... The story was pacy and sweet and the characters were very likeable. Of course, you knew how it would end before you started but that's why we read chick lit, isn't it? I found Samantha's actions very human and my favourite scene has to be... oh gosh, wait, no! There's too many of them! I'd say I liked the raspberries but that would make me look like a pervert :)

Right ho - pmed Katisha50 yesterday for her address so just waiting for that and the book can go on its travels again. Thanks so much for sharing this. I would probably never have read it otherwise which would have been such a shame as it's such a sweet book!

Mmmm something weird is going on here. I registered as having received the book and it showed me up as anonymous!
Anyway, I loved it, so easy to read, quite predictable but unable to put it down until I's finished.
Ans so onto the next BC'er.....

Recieved this from Sirah 2 weeks ago - been too busy lately to be able to pick it up. Started it last night and most likely will have it finished by the end of the week. Fun book this far and I can already identify with Samantha.

Journal Entry 22 by ms-neonangel from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Thursday, November 16, 2006
Top notch read! Gott aadmit I was a little skeptical when I picked it but well worth the read. Has helped me think about life in a different way - honestly!

Sent to GateGypsy this afternoon!

Journal Entry 23 by GateGypsy from Ladysmith, British Columbia Canada on Friday, November 24, 2006
It arrived, it arrived! First thing to hit my mailbox (for me, anyway) in a while, so it was lovely to find. Have one-and-a-half other ring books to finish before I get to this one, but soon, I promise!

************************************************************************

Finished the other bookring book before it, just in time for more to arrive. Started this one, but couldn't really get into it with another book I had been eagerly awaiting just sitting on my table, so ended up hopping into that one. Did get back to this one right after it, though. Still had trouble with it. I guess I just couldn't relate/wasn't in the mood for this sort of story. I slogged though it, and finished it, anyways, and I wouldn't say it was a bad book, just bad timing on my part. I'm glad so many others before me enjoyed it as much as they did, and I'm sure the rest of the list will enjoy it, too. PMing luvtink81 and will send it on to her ASAP.

So I sent the book to AzurePurpleCat today!! Sorry I kept the book so long. I only read about half of the book, and from that I thought that it was a cute story but seemed predictable.

What they said!

I have been away for my first night since I had kids (I can't believe it is 9 years! LOL) and I took three books to read as I was travelling by train. This was a great, easy read. I did want to slap Sam a few times though, but I resisted. I nearly missed one of my trains though as I desperately wanted to finish it! This is the first book that I started and finished in the same day EVER!! I am so proud of me! *blush*

I've read books by Madeleine Wickham before but not Sophie Kinsella - I've got them all as TBR, but no time to read !! I'll be digging them out soon.

Will be in the post back to Katybean as soon as she sends me her address!

Thanks for sharing

Journal Entry 31 by angellica from Worksop, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, November 27, 2007
Katybean has contacted me and she doesn't want the book back. I will see if anyone else wants to read it before I wild release it.

Journal Entry 32 by mjm from Draper, Utah USA on Monday, January 14, 2008
I actually received this a week ago, but things have been so horrid since I returned from Christmas in Hawaii with my mother, that I just kept forgetting to log it on! It's so sad going from a holiday break where you had plenty of time to really read and breathe, back to a fast-paced life where you rarely have two moments to spare. :( Okay, I'm here to log on my catch through the mail, not cry over a career that keeps me too busy! :) I love Sophie Kinsella, so I'm sure I'll be reading this pretty soon. It's end of term this week, so in a few days, my load will lighten a little. Thanks!

Journal Entry 33 by mjm from Draper, Utah USA on Thursday, June 19, 2008
Man I love Sophie Kinsella! :) Her writing style, storytelling, and characters just make me smile. It's taken me FOREVER to get around to reading this, but now that the school year is over, I had the time to sit on the beach here in Hawaii (where I'm visiting my mom) and just tore through it. Have I said how much I enjoyed it? For pure "enjoyment" factor, I give it a 10. I hate differentiating between "literature" and all those other types, because it's just silly. You either enjoy a book for a different reason or value than another, and that's okay.

This novel of Samantha Sweeting, who left her high-powered, high-pressure job as a lawyer to run to the countryside. Of course there's a twist that sends her there, and as in many of Kinsella's novels, our main character has a little "divatude" running through her that keeps us reading (meaning that she has any of the modern female qualities we understand or laugh at, ie can't cook, loves shoes, on the fast track, secretely crushing on the guy next door, etc.). Samantha takes a job as a "domestic" and has to learn what that even means in order to survive and not be found out. I really did love the story overall (and was quite surprised and amused by the raspberry patch scene!) and just thought it was a delight to read.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
