Not my style of reading, but it was left on the train in the compartment across from mine and I couldn't resist grabbing it to register! :)

This is the first "Cat Who..." that I've read. It was a quick, fun read. And even tho the plot involved murder, it wasn't the least bit dark or 'gloom & doom.' Guess it's those crazy cats that keep it upbeat, even when disaster prevails.

Just waiting on kryan's address to mail this out. Thanks for including me!

May 9th - Arrived today!

May 10th - Oh...my...goodness! Am I allowed to pan a book after reading only 32 pages? Will I spoil it for future readers? Without giving away any plot details, three things hit me over the head:
* Like many serial novels, the author wastes the first few pages re-hashing characters and plot details of previous books that, I suspect, are irrelevant or peripheral to this one.
* Like many authors who churn out books in quick succession, she repeats information unnecessarily. (This is probably caused by different re-writes of a scene being badly edited together.) The worse case, but not the only one, is on page 32, where she writes: "Downstream were five rustic cabins facing the water [...] They were widely spaced and each had a screened porch overlooking the creek." Then, in the last paragraph of the same page, "The five rustic cabins on the bank of the creek were about a hundred feet apart, each with a screened porch overlooking the water [...]" Argh! Did no one proofread this before publishing?
* I feel like I’m being hit over the head with “local colour” that doesn’t further the plot or flesh out the characters. It’s all a little too cute.

OK, I confess. I'm really a dog person.

May 10th, cont. - Just finished reading. Well, it grew on me a little. There's a sort of Red Green dead-pan humour. At the same time, it could really use a good editor. The writing is like a badly pieced together quilt. Along with the repeating information and the unnecessary details, that I mentioned before, there were also several instance where the author seems to leave important details out of a scene. For example, one scene has a character waiting for a phone call, then he is acting in response to that phone call - but the call is never mentioned! The reader has to guess.

I sent a PM to wubbaducky to get mailing information.

Received safe and sound today in the mail - many thanks! I'm looking forward to reading it - just need to read another bookring book first but I should get through that fairly quickly!

This was my first ever The Cat Who book and I don't really read much mystery-type stuff but the blurb sounded fascinating. It was a nice light read but I'm not sure whether I'll read more of the series. There seemed to be a lot of characters trying to involve themselves in the book and I found it quite difficult to get attached to them with so many of them wandering through the pages but doubtless, regular readers of the series won't have this problem, as many of the characters seem to be from earlier books. I did like the lightness of it all though! Basically enjoyable and I liked Koko.

Thanks for sharing! I've got Gembear's address and will post on later this week when I can get to the post office...

Received it in this morning's post and am already halfway through it. Couldn't journal it earlier because the computer was having surgery again, sigh!

A really enjoyable tale. I loved the limerick fun - I used to have fun with them when I taught. Qwill was as humorous a character as ever with his curosity for the strange and unusual but with his diet he should be as wide as a house! As always the adorable KoKo and Yum Yum's mischievous exploits stole the show! I'm sure our cat has a bit of KoKo in him, he does that 'Who me?' blink too. I look forward to my next Cat Who adventure but for now this one is off to Austria to entertain Amberkatze.

Huge thanks to Gembear for sending this on to me and to rooshill for starting this ray! I have read a few of the books from this series and have a few on my TBR and have quite enjoyed them. They are short, interesting and a little quirky!

Seeing as I am last on the ray I will not read this straight away as there are a few other books I need to get read. As soon as I have finished reading it I will try and get it travelling again either by trading/relaying or releasing it.

This is the 3rd 'The Cat who...' book that I have read and I have a few on my TBR pile waiting for me as well. I admit they are a quick reads and seem to be also written quickly but there is that something that I like about the series.

I like the cats of course and Qwill is amusing. I guess the whole town, people and life is amusing. It is just fun to think that people still live this way and I during the first book I read I wasn't even sure if the books were set in the present or in the past.

I especially liked the limericks in this book and I always like the small background history stories. I wasn't sure what to think of Polly not playing a big part in this book. I always got the idea that something was going on between her and Qwill but it has never (unless it appears in another book) been made clear what.

I know someone at the English BC Meet-up who has taken an interest in this series so unless something else comes up I will keep hold of this book and take it along next month to the meeting.

Thank you Rooshill for letting me take part in this ray and thanks again Gembear for sending it on to me!
