I nearly gave up on this book in the first few chapters, but I'm glad I didn't! A wonderful love story with a detective storyling, plus surgical and aeronautical history set in the Phillipines in the early 1900s!
Favourite quote: (p. 184)
"We all get too attached to possessions, to things. They cannot be possessed, utterly, like food or wine. They are only on loan to us, these things we so cherish."

RELEASE NOTES:
Couldn't resist... I LOVE William Boyd. His books are just great. Thank you nice-cup-of-tea!
Silly me! Travelling home from a meeting in Germany tonight, I was so tired that I had to put away the book after having read the first couple of chapters and left it in the ICE when I alit. Hopefully, the book will find a more faithful reader.
