Witty and laugh out loud funny. Supposedly this is some insight to a guy's mind. I really hope that isn't true.

This book is up for grabs.

I really enjoyed About A Boy, so I was certain that I'd love this book. I saved this book until I knew I needed a self-indulgent read. Between being changed from 7.5 hour shifts to 12-hour shifts and watching co-workers get fired over the span of three days, I opened High Fidelity up.

The whiny petulant tone of the book is what initially turned me off. Or perhaps it was reading about his five worst heartbreaks. This main character was nothing but annoying. I gave the first third of the book a try and decided it's better for it to be released to someone else who would really enjoy it. Just as I thought I'd thought Rob had started to grow on me, he talks about his cheating on his girlfriend and why it was OK. That was enough for me.

Thanks for giving me this book, wordfiendca (and, indirectly, Zyrena, b/c she registered it first!) I really enjoyed meeting you at the meetups! Thanks so much for everything, and good luck with your new job (from what I saw at the meetup, you have really great friends at work!), love (congrats on your boyfriend's forthcoming MBA!), and life. If I'm ever in Toronto on the second Tuesday of the month, I'll definitely hit the next meetup! Take Care, and I can't wait to read this book! My sister's next in line for it!

Like wordfiendca, I had high expectations after 'About a Boy' and after seeing a part of the motion picture version of 'High Fidelity'. I was a bit disappointed. I couldn't relate to the main character. I couldn't empathize with his quest for a lost love. In fact, I didn't like anything about the main character. Maybe if I read this one first, I would think differently, but I guess that's the way life goes.

I'm sending this one back to T.O. for cestmoi!

I am about half way thru this book and laughing at almost every page. Rob is ridculous. He is like a parody of everything that a guy shouldn't be...but thinks he should be the best thing since sliced bread but feels good about letting himself not think that...if that makes sense.

Its humourous in a "can you believe this idiot??" kind of way. Every page he does or says something so incredibly stupid without realizing how incredibly stupid it is.

I honestly thought only women self-analyzed the way Rob does...although I certainly hope we do it with more common sense and less self-pitying!

I'll journal again.

This actually did get better, or I should say, the character got better as the story progressed. When he stopped trying to be "somebody", and was just himself, I actually kind of liked Rob.

Can't say it was better or worse than About A Boy since it was so completely different, in my opinion. But Nick Hornby does a really good job of telling us or maybe its just making us believe, what goes on inside a guy's head.

This is going to MarthaMinx in NC tomorrow for her and her hubby! Enjoy!

Recieved yesterday from lovely Cestmoi in Canada-- Thanks! Read the first couple of pages-- hilarious! Looking forward to reading it (and picturing John Cusack in my head-- oh la la).

I thought this book was great. It had that same endearing sarcasm and truthfullness to it of Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of a Staggering Genius). I thought Rob was lovable, in that quirky nuerotic way. The music discussions sound like ones my husband and I would have, so I am passing this to him next, and then I'll release it.

Update: My husband loved it as well. We read some parts outloud, and laughed at Rob's dialogue. Looking to release.

Update June 9: Sent out to mjm today!
