Hotel World is the 2001 novel by Booker Shortlisted and Whitbread Best Novel Award winner, Ali Smith. It's a quirky, fascinating, tour de force of a book, which is this years The City Reads....in Brighton & Hove, when we're trying to get the whole city reading this one book. Lots of copies will be released through BookCrossing all over the city - watch out for more Hotel World's in cafe's, on buses, in reception areas and offices near you!

The City Reads...Hotel World will be launched on World Book Day Thursday March 2nd at Hotel du Vin, Ship Street, Brigton. Watch out for lots of Hotel World events around the City throughout March, April and May, including Ali Smith in conversation with Jackie Kay as part of the Brighton Festival.

Picked this up from the Jubilee Library on Feb 15th as part of the Big City read- very exciting! Haven't read as yet, but it's on my Mount TBR and then I will release on April 21st (my allocated date). Great to see Bookcrossing making such a big appearance in Brighton!!

I finished this book last weekend and this is the first chance I've had to write a little something about it!
The book itsefl is interesting, in that it weaves together several stories that are all interlinked around the hotel of the title. These links then discuss the 'world' from their point of view. It has shades of David Mitchell's 'Ghostwritten' about it in it's structure, but maybe not in style. Overall it was a pleasing read but perhaps didn't grab me as much as it could. I look forward to seeing Ali Smith at the Brighton festival to hear her own perspective on the book- and hope whoever picks this book up enjoys it :0) Happy reading!
