Lyra Belacqua is content to run wild among the scholars of Jordan College, with her daemon familiar always by her side. But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle - a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armoured bears. And as she hurtles toward danger in the cold far North, young Lyra never suspects the shocking truth: she alone is destined to win, or to lose, this more-than-mortal battle.
I read it in winter before the film came to the cinemas. I enjoyed the book a lot, especially as the ending was different to the film one. I already bought the two sequels.
I think I will keep it as a classic for my "Fantasy bookbox" which I would like to do one day.
(The animal demons in the film were too "artificial" for my taste - and why did they have to change the story in a way to create a slightly different ending?)

The book will finally travel on with my Fantasy-bookbox ("DEESSEs Fantasy-Bookbox, my 500th registered "book"!)
