[Note from BookCrossing Support: as per the "frequent questions" item here, we're asking that people no longer use BCIDs for this kind of thing, and that no further entries be made on this one. I've edited out the BCID to avoid further entries. Since this project was begun before the policy was put in place it can remain, but no further entries should be made here. Thank you. -BC Support Team]

Here's how it goes, just enter the BCID no. xxx-xxxxxxx Your bookcrossing name, and some details about yourself, a photo would be good too!

Journal Entry 2 by Safrolistics from Newbiggin-By-The-Sea, Northumberland United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
So here's the first of (hopefully) many photo's.
This was taken on Blyth beach (North East England) and it's approx 1978, and I'm the one in the blue bikini! Question is, why is everyone else in Jumpers?!
My family where originaly from the North East, but moved to Warwickshire in the late 60's. We spent every summer on Blyth beach (near enough) and now the've moved back up there, leaving me here in George Elliot/Shakespeare country.

Journal Entry 3 by UrbanSpaceman from Strasbourg, Alsace France on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
UrbanSpaceman here. Pure vanity this :) In December 2005 I was involved in the Channel 4 programme Space Cadets. This is pic of me that I snapped off one of the monitors in an edit suite (I don't have a TV, so I wasn't sure if/when I would see myself on the box again...)

Journal Entry 4 by Amberkatze from Wien Bezirk 10 - Favoriten, Wien Austria on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
They say curiousity killed the cat but in this case it didn't! I was a little curious (katze means cat in German) and thought I would come have a look! Will be nice to see what people write in here!

I am from Wales in the UK but I live in Vienna, Austria. I love Bookcrossing but can't remember what I used to do with all the time that I am suddenly using for BC!! :)

Journal Entry 5 by AnglersRest from Teignmouth, Devon United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
What a great idea. I'm AnglersRest living in Devon England, although originally from Surrey. I couldn't find a photo of me that makes me look slim!, so how about this one? Isn't he beautiful? Monty is a Border Terrier aged 8 years. Small in size, but big in personality! He looks a bit scruffy, but has recently had a nice new hair cut!

Journal Entry 6 by jalna from Wrexham, Wales United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
What larks! I've chosen a picture of myself and HonoraryBCDog taken when we went to visit another BookCrosser who is shortly going to move house and won't be around to be visited any more, which is a great shame.

I'm wearing one of my BCUK-logo'd sweatshirts and HonoraryBCDog is sporting her BCUK bandana.

Journal Entry 7 by LindyB28 from Acocks Green, West Midlands United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Journal Entry 10 by acanthium32 from Maidstone, Kent United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Great idea - I'm joining in so I can be nosey and read all the journal entries and rub shoulders with the various BCUK media stars...;)

I live in the middle of nowhere in the heart of Kent with my bookcrossing son, MantisMad.

This photo of me is rather out of date, but the most recent one I've got - I *hate* having my picture taken!

Journal Entry 11 by wingAnonymousFinderwing on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Hi all!! Well it seems I'm the first journaler here from the good ole US of A!! I live in a very small town in Oregon. I'm not sure of the actual population, but I do know there are less than 200 students in our local school and that is Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Hmmmm what eles to say... I have one son (7dragons) who is 13 and a wonderful S.O. (GWiley), and although they think BookCrossing is a great idea, I do all the work on their bookshelf. So if you check you will notice their bookshelves are rather boring. I also have a step daughter and 3 grandchildren ages 2, 4, and 6.

I have 3 cats (Zeus, LuLu, and Silver Bells) and 1 dog (Mocha) who is a Husky. The picture is of Mocha.

And last but not least I love this web site!!!

Journal Entry 12 by queensknob from Wytheville, Virginia USA on Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Hello from the beautiful state of Virginia, USA! I live in a small town in the mountains of SW Virginia. This is a picture of me with my husband, three sons and daughter-in-law. We are owned by three cats and one dog! Bookcrossing has become a central part of my day - somewhere to chat and learn. I have always enjoyed reading, and now I can share with others.

There are so many BCers posting here that are from the UK...my husband is from Northumberland. We met online and have been married 4 years this coming March.

Have a great day!

Journal Entry 13 by Elestr from Kimberley, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hello from misty Nottinghamshire!
It's a bit bleak out there at the mo but never mind.
I'll upload a photo soo (promise).

Journal Entry 14 by Vespa from Weymouth, Dorset United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hi, Vespa here. I live on the beautiful jurrasic coast of Dorset. I'm afraid I'm another one who doesn't do photos, so you will have to content yourself with one of my two most precious babies.

Journal Entry 15 by Shelbycat from Llanelli, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hello, I'm Shelbycat living in South Wales but originally born in Cornwall and raised in Cambridgeshire. This is a really interesting idea.
I would put a piccie of myself here but i still don't have a digital camera and the home scanner is still in the box.
Everyone here seems to be a cat fan so i'll own up to being owned by 2 cats (Binki & Boo) but looking after lots of unwanted cats for the Cats Protection League for Swansea.

Journal Entry 17 by Mytilus from Plymouth, Devon United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hello!

I'm from Glasgow, but have been living in Plymouth for the last eight (!) years. I'm very lucky because Plymouth straddles the border between Devon and Cornwall; an area almost as lovely as my beloved west coast of Scotland.

:o)

Journal Entry 18 by nyassa from Deal, Kent United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hello from Winchester in the south of England or from St Gaultier in the centre of France. I am fortunate to be able to spend time in both. It's pretty wet in both at the moment, but I keep reminding myself that the reservoirs need it!

Journal Entry 19 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Recovered outer-Londoner here... via several years in Cambridge and now enjoying the wilds of the North Hampshire / West Berkshire border. 5 cats claim me as their pet human, 3 with me and 2 keeping my parents company.

Journal Entry 20 by katie1980 from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Like it!

You ain't getting a photo from me ;oP Mainly cos the only really decent one I've got at the moment is my profile pic (so go to my bookshelf if you've not seen it and you want to) - and even that's a good 4 or 5 years out of date! My excuse is "I'm a photographer, not a model!" ;o)

I live in Poole, in Dorset, about 10 minutes drive or so from the sea. But due to a shortage of Chemical Engineering jobs in this part of the world, I fear we're going to have to move away, which is sad but probably necessary. Though we don't go to the beach very often, it's nice to know it's there if we want it, and we get lots of nice visitors in the summer cos they also want to go to the beach! *lol*

I LOVE BookCrossing, and I LOVE BCUK - I've made loads of wonderful friends because of the two of them. I have also managed to *increase* my TBR mountain and the number of books in my house - that wasn't supposed to happen! But I've also got back into reading in a *big* way over the past couple of years, for which I'm very grateful as it's a great means of relaxation and escape.

{{hugs}} to all!

Right now it's my last year in high school, and there's this extremely important SPM examination at the end of this year. Dad's like, banning me from reading books until then :(

Ah, well, there are ways to slip past dad's watchful eyes ;)

Journal Entry 26 by veganknitter from Bolton, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hi from "sunny" Bolton, Lancs, UK. I'm veganknitter, I've been a bookcrosser since April 2005 and I love it. I'm currently involved in a Birthday A- Z Wild Release Challenge which involves releasing books that match the initial of the place I am releasing them in. If I can't reach a place that matches the book alphabetically I plan to do a themed release. See how I'm getting on at 255-3512997.

Waving to all the other BookCrossers out there!

Most of my business is plastered on my bookshelf, but here it is anyway:
My name is Jill and I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. BoosterJ and I are expecting our first child BabyBoosterJ sometime in April...I already set up her bookshelf so we can start releasing kid's books together right away!

Tartany ( ( (((Waves))) ) ) from Edinburgh, central Scotland. I was born in Stonehaven in the south of the north of Scotland, on the coast it’s 15 miles from Aberdeen. BookCrossing thrills: I now read so much more then I ever did before, 149 books in 2005, as opposed to 10ish/year BC BookCrossing: discovering so many wonderful books &: discovering so many wonderful bookcrossers. HUGE thanks, to all you guys out there ~ for waving back!

Pic Mums fave Turkish Restaurant in Aberdeen, Nargile. I’m on the right, one of my last shots of me with my Dad, (who sadly died last April) and my younger sister who lives in Canada and of course my Mum!

Journal Entry 30 by tiggsybabes from Pontefract, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hiya :) I'm live in West Yorkshire, but was born in Jersey, Channel Islands. I'm in BCUK & will be going to the Unconvention in July for the 3rd time. I love reading (don't we all?) & think bookcrossing is the best invention ever :)
Please check out my availables as I'm happy to post them out, though not too many at once as money is a bit tight atm. I've uploaded a photo of my baby, Holly, as it's the only one I have at the right size. There's a picture of me & my other daughter, Kate, on my profile page. Holly was about an hour old in this photo & I'm getting broody looking at it. Whoops!

Journal Entry 31 by KayJ from Durham, County Durham United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Ok...i'm Kathryn, age 18, from Durham, NE England, currently at 6th form, HOPING to achieve the grades for university. This is such a really good idea, cool to read all the entries from all over the world! A bit about me...i live with my parents and my brother (when he's not at uni), who's 20. I enjoy reading (bit of a given, but never mind!), i adore music, play piano and guitar, love the north-east, although wouldn't say no to a bit of warmer weather now and again! (Pic is of me [middle] in Balloch, Scotland at an REM concert in summer 2005!) Peace to all, take care.

Journal Entry 32 by ReetPetite from Beeston, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hi. I'm ReetPetite living in Nottingham UK. My BC name is my nickname at work, I couldn't think of a better one. I love reading & I love Bookcrossing. I'm going to the Unconvention again, hoping to meet more BCers this time.

The photo was taken in sunny (but cold) Venice last November.

Journal Entry 33 by Jaycee1972 from Belper, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Hello from Alfreton in Derbyshire. This is a great idea but I need to figure out how to put photos on! When I have figured it out I will put one on, promise! I love to read bits about who everyone is. My husband and I have two cats called Harley and Wilma. No kids (yet). I am suprised one of the cats isn't trying to climb on my knee or walk on the lap top which is a favourite of theirs at the moment| I love book crossing but haven't made many wild releases yet. I intend to do better this year. I work as a legal assistant and am (supposed to be) studying to become a legal executive. Life and book crossing get in the way! I also love to travel.

Journal Entry 34 by JaneUK from Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Journal Entry 35 by littlemark on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
What a nice idea.

I'm Mark, my current interests are: Modern Fiction, my mini-orchard/micro-vineyard/cider-making projects, music from A-Z (especially D, U & B but definately not C & W), Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club and all the home nations, except Wales and Scotland. Oh, friends and family too.
The picture is from my younger 'Bearded Rock God' days, obviously the beard has gone, though sadly little else seems to have changed!
Pass it on....

Hello from south-east London, UK (waves to all catchers!)

I dug around for a photo and having discovered, shockingly, that there is no good photo of me with any one of my guinea pigs, I've chosen one that has a large, empty wine glass in front of me. Says it all really.

Journal Entry 39 by Korky from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006

Will add more when inspired.

Journal Entry 40 by WistfulDragon from Streatham, Greater London United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006
Hi! I hate cameras, but Semioticghost is great with one and doesn't like to take no as an answer, so I'm going to put one here that she took of me with my youngest. Update - that one was too big to load, so I've had to revert to one that was taken of me with SirRoy at the unconvention.
I also have two daughters, the eldest has branched out as Tiggerlily on here, while the other two still maskerade as We3Dragonets. Happily I got rid of their father about two years ago, which is when my life really began.
I was born in Singapore, we left when I was five months old, and since then I've lived in many parts of England. The second half of my life so far has been in London, but I still count myself as a Northerner.
I live with my three wonderful but wearing children (it's sometimes a pleasure to go to work!), one cat, three hamsters, and a tankful of tropical fish.
Thanks to bookcrossing I have read some fascinating books that I otherwise wouldn't have looked at, and made friends with some wonderful people; several doctors, several librarians, several media stars (including a journalist at the BBC), a rocket scientist, some published authors - but more, they are warm and generous friends. I have also discovered that it feels perfectly natural to go into a pub and sit on my own with a book, or meet a crowd of people I've not set eyes on before - very liberating!
I can be a bit scatty, have no memory, and my house is always a tip. My mother is forbidden entry (she lives a long way away anyway) as she is a good housekeeper, but my friends have learned to accept me the way I am, and are always welcome. If you're ever in London, send me a message and I'll be more than happy to meet you!
Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, I tend to talk an awful lot sometimes!

Journal Entry 43 by rem_STP-921375 on Thursday, January 19, 2006
Hello! I'm a Librarian currently living in London, but looking for jobs in the West Country (anywhere that is primarily famous for scones and clotted cream is okay by me!). I love BC, although sadly it has made me buy even more books! My bookshelves are all full so I have had to resort to cardboard boxes. I will be attending the Unconvention for the first time this year.

The photo is of my adopted daughter Amy. Sadly she doesn't live with me because she is a large, grumpy orangutan. I LOVE orangutans, probably because I am rather like them personality-wise...

Journal Entry 44 by RuAnderson from Stevenage, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006
SOrry no pics but maybe one day...(OK Safro has threatend me with random acts of bookcrossing vindictiveness so .....will try to attache what someone said was a good likeness).
I live in Stevenage with two kids, assorted livestock including dog, cat, fish, tortoise hedghog etc, several hundered books and a long suffering wife.
I work in London, though my boss has suggested I mearly eat lunch there and draw a wage. Which is why at 6 pm Im still at work instead of heading home - mind you I am dossing - so perhaps he has a point......

Journal Entry 45 by OutrageousGrace from Oswestry, Shropshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006
[THANK YOU all you lovely people - I have now succeeded in uploading a photo, as you see!]

Just to prove that I'm not a COMPLETELY dumb blonde, here is a picture of me on the day I graduated with First Class Hons in English Lit.

I am not working at the moment, apart from lots of voluntary commitments. When my son Sam (now 6) is a little older, I hope to teach English. We live near Oswestry in North Shropshire with a mad Border Collie called Fosse, two cats and a hyperactive gerbil.

I love reading (obviously), theatre, music, walking, good company. Lots of other things too, but I'd better stop somewhere!

Alison (aka OutrageousGrace)

P.S.
Isn't Bookcrossing just a lovely thing to do? I think the world would be a nicer place if it was full of bookcrossers.

Journal Entry 46 by dsc from Chester, Cheshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006

I'm meeting my first fellow bookcrosser tomorrow and am really looking forward to it!

Journal Entry 47 by molekilby from Brithdir, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006
Excellent idea. I'm molekilby from S Wales. I work in Cardiff. I renewed the joy of reading recently and then became active in Bookcrossing (although a member since 2003) and BCUK. Both of which has seen the number of books I've read (and collect in the house) increase dramatically.
Pic is of me just after shaving my head for charity in 2005. I used to have shoulder length hair and a full beard. I've kept it short and no beard since.

Journal Entry 48 by tehuti from Swansea, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2006
I'm Krys. I was born in London, studied in Bristol, lived in Zagreb (then Yugoslavia, now Croatia) for 5 years, and then in Sheffield before moving to Nottingham. I did a doctorate in immunology, which taught me that I hate lab work. Then I ran a faculty library and requalified in library and information studies and decided libraries were not for me. I then spent longer than I wished as a scientist and information specialist at a charity. During that time I qualified as an indexer and still index several books a year. Finally, with no linguistic qualifications and by sheer chance I became a medical translator and seem to be good enough for clients to come back. I've managed to leave the pettiness of office life and being (mis)managed to working at home. I'm working harder than ever but loving every moment. The times spent working right through to next morning are balanced by the days off and holidays I take without needing to ask anyone's permission :))

I took up running in my 50s having been a lifelong couch potato. The photo is of me just before running the Brighton 10K in November 2005. It was taken by the younger of my two grown-up daughters (faerieenigma on BC). My other main activity is West Gallery music in which I fiddle and sing the treble part in a performing group from Warwick. My other interests mainly revolve round esotericism and hermeticism, Egyptology, astrology, tarot, Jungian psychology and other "weird" pursuits. I am currently owned by 4 cats, all black: Merlin, Ebony, Sopdet and Seshat.

I'm herrgirl, living in Harrow, Greater London but originally from the West Riding of Yorkshire and a tyke through and through. I joined Book Crossing in 2003 to stop my daughter, chelseagirl, from nagging, but only became an active bookcrosser about a year ago after I retired. I'm going to the Unconvention this year and look forward to meeting all the people I read on BCUK and swap books with.

Journal Entry 51 by bookmaniac70 from София / Sofia, Sofiya Bulgaria on Thursday, January 19, 2006
Hi everyone! Here is bookmaniac70 from Sofia, Bulgaria. I shall try to upload my new profile`s picture. My husband took it before my first wild release for the new year.We bought recently a digital photo camera and I`m getting ambitious to take shots of most of my wild releases...but this may be difficult expecially in places with many people!

I live in Sofia with my husband and two kids-Constantin,7, and Zornitsa,3. My son is in first grade and is already starting to show strong interest in books. He discovers the power of reading and picks up every book around him.I hope very much that he will become one day a bookcrosser, too. My husband is not a bookcrosser but he approves very much of bookcrossing and is happy that I`m happy with my books and readings.

Bookcrossing has been one of the most wonderful surprises/events/discoveries in my life. I started to read much more than before, got to know new writers, new titles. Bookcrossing connected me to many wonderful people who like me love books and sharing. I hope this movement will become stronger and stronger and will attract even more "bookmaniacs" all over the world.
----------------------
Update: I tried several times to upload my picture but every time it returned me to my profile page. So no picture....:-((

My two sons (aged 15 & 17) love to read too, but you'll never catch them journalling a book.... They think my book thing is "stupid" lol.

I've been a BCer for 20months and my fave part of the whole thing is wild releasing.... I've just done the sums and on average i release about 192 books per month lol.... Addicted? Me? lol

The picture is of me taken by SemioticGhost at the BCUKUnCon05. We're in the throws of planning BCUKUnCon06 at the moment, so im looking forward to seeing a lot of you in Birmingham in June!

Hello! I think this is a great way to meet BookCrossers from across the pond :)

I was an expatriate US gal living in Bristol, England for six years. Now I consider myself an expatriate UK gal living near Philadelphia, PA. I belong to a group of BookCrossers in King of Prussia, PA who are also world travelers. We'd love to join y'all in Birmingham in June!

Hiya, I'm Vikki from Risca, South Wales. So a little about me, I'm a mum of two, ds8 and dd5, with a builder hubby and a mad black lab dog. What do I like to do? Hmmmm, read (surprise surprise)knit, walk, yoga, the list could go on and on. I spend way too much time online, usually Bookcrossing related lol, and love chocolate with a passion.

I am hoping to meet my first 'live' bookcrosser soon, as well as attending the Unconvention.

I'm yet to work out how to resize my photos, so I'll post when I work out how to do it.

Another knitter here! I live in Birmingham at the moment, am from East Yorkshire originally, and have been a student since time immemorial. The pic is of me in the sky! I did a parachute jump when I was travelling and these are my legs, stylishly clad in a boiler suit, heading for the ground.

Journal Entry 61 by wingDavros-10wing from Banyo, Queensland Australia on Friday, January 20, 2006
Mmmm? What to say about myself? Enjoying Bookcrossing but will admit that the primary use I am making of the site is as an on-line catalogue of my library and the releasing of books is only secondary to this (although a close second). Enjoy reading, cinema, TV (mainly watching old movies on cable), science fiction in all media, collecting books, and movie and sci-fi memorabilia, dinner with friends....

Mmmm! Yikes! Starting to sound like a dating agency profile. Better not let KEMS see this.

The picture here is the closest I could find to me holding a book. I had been lounging in the pool (it was 42 degrees Celcius there that day) with a book, but had to put it down to drink my mug of tea.

Journal Entry 62 by wingSkyringwing from Reid, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, January 21, 2006
What a marvellous idea! Here, let me join in, and this is what you'd see if you were sitting on my computer monitor and snapping flashes into my eyes. I'm holding my BBC Radio Guernsey journal, because I'm listening to Jenny Kendall-Tobias at the moment, which it's just after a summer sundown on a hot day here in Canberra.

I've been a BookCrosser for three years, I get a great deal of joy from books, BookCrossing and BookCrossers, and I have sometimes been described as "the world's only full-time BookCrosser", which isn't too far from the truth!

Hi. *waves*

I'm Laura and i'm a teacher living in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. I teach little children, 4 and 5 year olds. I'm a newly-wed and now own my own house. Yay - no more renting! I am a vegetarian and i love food.
I love to read and i've been a member of BC since 2003, although i have slowed up a bit in my reading and releasing of late.
I also love to be creative and make things. My main love at the moment is knitting but i am slowly expanding my horizons.
Looking forward to reading what everyone has written. :D

Edited to add: Forgot to add my sister and brother are also bookcrossers - mockingbird-05 and Jonneh. Still working on my non-reading hubby!
Also wanted to add a link to my journal: http://laurakateknits.livejournal.com/

Hi - I'm minnie the pinkozcat. I live in Cottesloe, Western Australia.

I live with two Burmese cats and I am not putting a picture of them in this journal because they are very territorial and there are already a lot of cats here.

This is me bookcrossing in Iran. I'm not usually that wide - I am going to have to tweak the original to slim me down a bit.

Journal Entry 66 by Lytteltonwitch from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, January 21, 2006
I like to confuse everyone with my screen name as I actually live in Christchurch.Reason for screen name is I was born in Lyttelton and my children used call me a witch that spelt with a "B"
I have two adult sons and the younger one Robert is always complaining about my books.
As well as obviously bookcrossing I do geocaching and host overseas visitors thro' couchsurfing.I don't have a lot of spare time but one day hope to get back into my craft work and the family tree.
My future plans include taking extended leave from work and travelling especially to the UK so I hope to get to meet everyone in person. The minute I am given medical clearance I will be booking my flights, which gives me about two years to save the money.
This photo was taken at a work function, when we arrived we were all handed headgear to wear.I used the idea at the Dunedin convention.

Journal Entry 67 by KEMS from Banyo, Queensland Australia on Sunday, January 22, 2006
I live in Brisbane and I’ve always loved books and loved to read. I can’t remember a day in my life where I haven’t read or been read to. When my partner, Davros-10 started becoming interested (for ‘interested’ read ‘slightly compulsive’) in BookCrossing, I thought that I would look into it, I needed to make sure it wasn’t anything too odd. I checked BookCrossing out and found that I enjoyed it too, especially the authors I’ve been introduced to, the RABCKs, the releases I’ve had caught and the ones I’ve caught as well as the lovely Christmas themed BookCrossing activities shared with BookCrossers from home and overseas. I’m a slow and steady sort of BookCrosser so I will keep on registering and releasing as whim would have it.

The picture here is Davros-10 and me on holidays in Sydney in 2005.

P.S to Davros-10, I have read your journal entry and say – go ahead with the on-line dating agency suggestion if you will. But, confidentially, I think it is a safe bet that he won’t proceed because he’d begrudge the time that would be taken away from BookCrossing!

Sherlockfan calling a.k.a Jan, the Gran of 10.
This is just such a magnificent idea. It is terrific to learn a bit about some of the wonderful people who are Bookcrossers. I was introduced to this superb "game" by Boreal through a genealogical message board back in early 2004. Now I combine two passions, family history and reading, Oh and photographic scrapbooking in my spare time.
I've met some wonderful folk through the site and had the pleasure of meeting BXers in Dublin and Ballymena when on a trip to the UK last year. I hope to be able to meet with more this year when we come across the globe again.
If any one reading this is from Surbiton where I will be about June 14th for a couple of weeks do please p-mail me.
There is a BCNZ convention in Dunedin (new Zealand) in February and I'm really looking forward to meeting a whole lot of BXers.
I have no cats, dogs nor even a ferret like the lovely dreissm in Texas.
Sincere congratulations to safrolistics for thinking this up. I'm a bit technologically challenged so haven't risked playing about with a photo as yet. Maybe I'll try later.
Warm regards to all.

Wow ... I'm a book now!

I'm Rosie, born in St Albans, a Roman city just north of London. I love travelling and am currently moving very slowly around the world with my Canadian boyfriend. So far, on this particular journey. we've been away from home for about 15 months and have visited Canada and Fiji, and spent a year on a working holiday in New Zealand. It was great to meet up with Kiwi bookcrossers when I passed through Christchurch!

We've been in Australia since November, enjoying Brisbane and challenging ourselves fruit picking further north in Queensland. Now we've moved to lovely, temperate Melbourne, which we'll use as a base for the next 2 years. I'm currently job-hunting - back in England I worked in publishing and in medical libraries, though here I'll take whatever I can get! Hoping to meet other Melbourne bookcrossers soon.

Good to meet you all - I'll upload a photo when I get the chance.

Hi there from the Borders of Scotland & a small town called Peebles. I'm a nurse working part time in our local hospital.

Love reading, wonder what I did with the time I know spend, bookcrossing, keeping up with BCUK & tracking rings/rays & then sitting on my hands to stop me joining more, LOL.

I'm attending my first UnCon in Birmingham this summer & am looking forward to it. Sharing a room with Reetpetite & flying down from Edinburgh, my first solo airplane trip, so I'm dubbing the UnCon scotsbookie's big adventure.

Hate having to have my pic taken so you'll have to make do with a little Marigold Flower Fairy I stitched.

I'm married with a 6 yr old daughter who is the light of my life and apart from reading, my other hobbies are card-making, calligraphy, watercolour painting and dressmaking (the last two haven't had as much attention since I started BookCrossing but it was a sacrifice worth making!).

Hello all! My name is Feryl, and I live in Sydney (just around the corner from Littlemave, as it happens), but I grew up in the beautiful, World Heritage listed Blue Mountains. I was introduced to Bookcrossing nearly a year ago (my first Bookcrossing anniversary is coming up on 17th April!) by my friend miss-jo. I've since become slightly obsessed with it and keep pestering the rest of my friends to get in on the action too! :o)

Keep well. Very best wishes.

Journal Entry 84 by cafeauchocolat on Friday, April 7, 2006
What a great idea!!

Anyways, here's a little about me - my BC name first and foremost is a homage to my 2 main vices : coffee and chocolate. But it is also a "twist" to my parentage of Indonesian-Dutch-Sino-Malay ancestry. So, instead of the usual "cafe-au-lait hue" used generally to describe a mixed raced child, I decided to call myself "Cafe-au-chocolat" instead (yes ... yes ... I am the poster child for confused children and walking dichotomies). I now live and work in Kuala Lumpur (or KL as it is affectionately known by locals!) but have spent 3/4 of my years growing up in London, New York, LA, Rotterdam and spent 7 years doing my tertiary education in France. Perhaps now you understand why books are my contant companions. I've been a BCer since 2002 (or was it 2003? hmmm ...) and you can check out my BC profile on the kind of books I love.

I have a large collection on Vampire books, included romance ones, that are avaliable to Bookcrossers from Boomarings. I have too many books in the house :) and I collect the Simpsons Episodes. I am also a livejournaller :D I belong to too many Yahoo groups, all book groups.

I have picked a photo that Skying took of me because it is bright and colourful and one day I will actaully read the book I am holding.

Not to sound like a broken record or anything, but hey -- what a great idea this is! Wish I had thought of it! I saw this when browsing someone else's bookshelf, and my curiosity got the best of me!

I'm Coleen, 30-something, living in the Midwestern USA. I'm very addicted to this BookCrossing thing, I might add, pretty much since the day I joined. How can you NOT be??! I am also not good with the photo thing here, but I'm going to try, and if it doesn't work, I guess I'll keep trying until it does. I had to laugh and get the camera the other day when my daughter (who just turned 2) plopped herself down on the floor with one of her books and some of my brown packaging paper and started trying to wrap it up, apparently after seeing me do it numerous times. LOL!

I'm sandyundead, currently at university in Durham, but born in Essex, although only lived there for 2 months so not sure if I count as an Essex girl or not :) Grew up in Wolverhampton and went to school in Telford, so basically am very confused :) Studying languages and want to travel for the rest of my life, so probably won't make defining myself any easier!
I love Bookcrossing, although I do have _far_ too many books to read now, and feel that any time not spent reading is wasted! i have made loads of great friends through the site and really look forward to the monthly Newcastle meetups. Might even sort myself out and make the Durham meet a regular thing (pigs might also fly!) :s
And for anyone who knows I'm related to the weeblys but aren't sure how (can hear aunty weebly complaining now that I'm not weeblysniece!) I am weebly's niece (duh!) and katweeble's daughter.
Finally a question - how do you add a photo to a journal? Can't believe I've been a member for over 2 years and still don't know how *looks very sheepish and hurredly submits je so as not to prolong embarrassment!*

Update - thanks very much to feryl for letting me know how to add my picture (stolen from aunty weebly who put it on another journal related to me) :)

Journal Entry 92 by SciFisstrs from Elkins Park, Pennsylvania USA on Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Hi My name is Sheila, SciFisstrs on Bookcrossing. I was excited from the first moment I saw this site and understood its concept. I love the idea of keeping your mind sharp by reading often and when I heard that after I'm done with my books, I can pass this idea on, I was hooked. What a thrill it is to leave a book behind and wait for a journal entry, seeing how that one book that you left in the wild can somehow change that person's life. Needless to say, I was really excited to start.
But about myself, lets see, I am the proud mother of two wonderful children, my daughter named Megan, 19 and my son Matthew (He too is on Bookcrossing, TITurtle1,) 16. Both my children are in Scouting, Venturing and Boy Scouts, which my son had recently achieved Eagle Scout, and my Daughter, Silver Award. While my son is still in high school, my daughter attends Temple University. I couldn't be prouder of both of them.
During my spare time, other than reading with my cat Samantha on my lap, and spending time with my husband, I like to play darts every sunday. Its something I've been enjoying for a couple years now. :-)
The picture above is of my son (TITurtle1) and I. Its been wonderful reading all the entries made and looking at their photos. Hope there is more to come! :-)

Hi all. I thought I'd join the fun.

I'm Pixette and live in Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia, but I originally come from Brisbane.

I love my adopted city, slendid weather with the city and a magnificent harbour I can walk to from home.

I've been a bookcrosser for a couple of years now and enjoy the company of other crossers immensely. When I travel (which happens occassionally) I hope to meet some of you who are a bit more far flung than downtown Sydney.

I haven't got a recent photo but I need one for a few other reasons so I'll post one sometime.

Eeeekaleeeka!! Couldn't possibly put a photo on here as I'm allergic to cameras and run a mile when I see one sneaking out of someone's bag! Am v. surprised waderwoman didn't post the one of her in Hawaiian dress singing into a banana though. Like her, I love bookcrossing even though my DH quite clearly thinks I'm bonkers. Not so, for it is such fun and I love wild releasing books here and there so keep your eyes peeled where ever you are.

Originally from Ayrshire in Bonnie Scotland but have been living in the Midlands for ages now with 4 kids, 3 cats, 2 hamsters and sadly only 1 husband. Still get homesick for the lovely West Coast and the haggis and the heather, so try to make frequent trips across the border to my homeland. Anyway ramble, ramble, witter, witter must go, this isn't getting the baby a bottle is it? Lovely to meet all you fellow bookcrossers - what would we do without bookcrossing.com?!

Journal Entry 98 by garibaldisghost from Nottingham, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom on Saturday, May 13, 2006
I am mostly harmless and have been a bookcrosser since Christmas 2005.

I find Bookcrossing to be eminently suitable to my obsessive compulsive tendencies and there is no greater Bookcrossing feeling than getting (sadly rare) a journal entry from a released book. I also enjoy rugby, football, cricket, real ale and many other admittedly-typical Blokish, British pursuits.
