"'Nicotine?' Carella said.
'Yeah,' Blaney said. 'Deadly poison. Couldn't have been a very pleasant death either...Makes you want to quit smoking doesn't it?'

Jerome McKennon was very dead, very nastily dead.
The 87th precint boys were on a new case, but for Hal Willis it would be car more than just another crime investigation. His relationship with Marilyn Hollis was hardly the usual one between a cop and a suspect."

Taking to a meetup.

Journal Entry 3 by katie1980 from Basingstoke, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, January 15, 2006
I picked this up at the meetup in the George and Dragon yesterday. I didn't have the energy to journal the books then, though!
It sounds like an interesting little book, and hopefully it won't take me too long to read :o)

This book is good :o)
I keep looking at the cover and thinking "who is McBain?!" because there are no characters in the story with that name. But that's because it's the name of the author! *lol* It's emblazoned in such big gold letters across the cover that I keep thinking it's the name of the detective or something - because it sounds just like the names of the American cops on TV - Columbo, Ironside, Quincy, etc. - McBain would fit so neatly into that system! ;o)

The story wasn't totally what I was expecting, but it was a good read, with lots of twists and turns to keep me guessing which I enjoy. I like American cop stories, especially ones where there isn't an obvious culprit from the beginning.

Thanks for sharing this one - I'll pass it on when I can!

Journal Entry 5 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, July 24, 2008
Sorry for not journalling this one sooner!

A solid piece of older detective fiction - lots of suspects, lots of twists and the odd bit of quandry...
