This award-winning (!) novel is an example of bad SF imitating bad SF. Seen it all before somehow; didn't like it then, don't like it now.
The Time Out comment in the blurb says: "A tangy blend of psychological insight and impassioned lyricism, passed through a sieve of diamond-clear prose...The Sparrow has depth, pace, engaging characters and an alien culture that knocks you sideways."
This almost exactly expresses the opposite of my view of this book.
