What does an "Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter" - Fan do after reading the last book in the series? And it's still a long time until the new one comes out? Sure, I could re-read all of them, but that's no fun yet. So - let's investigate what else Mrs. Hamilton has written...

That's how I discovered the novels about fairy princess Meredith NicEssus, also know as Merry Gentry. Let's see, what do we have here: mystical creatures, crime, intruiges, fairy politics, lots of juicy sex and all the men are studs... Yes, I think I'll like that! ;-) Hell, that's why I read fantasy, no need to be realistic! LOL

This is the second book in the series.

From amazon.com:
"In the second R-rated outing (after 2000's A Kiss of Shadows) from bestseller Hamilton to feature bright and winsome faery princess Meredith Gentry, the unlikely shamus, who runs an L.A. detective agency with a staff of faery musclemen (plus a pet goblin), seems to spend almost as much time pondering her position in the fey world as attending to her client, glamorous film star Maeve Reed, actually a Seelie goddess, who needs Meredith's help in getting pregnant. Meredith does what she can for Maeve, although she has troubles enough of her own in the conception game. As one of two possible heirs to the Unseelie throne, the other being her nasty cousin, Prince Cel, Meredith must produce her own child and then, by faery tradition, marry her partner. It isn't easy, since any father must be kingly material, but our heroine is a game lass, and her failure is not for lack of trying. In an exciting climax, the LAPD Bureau of Human and Fey Affairs summons Meredith to battle a fearsome, crawling, tentacled and slobbering monster, the Nameless, which was too blithely created by opposing faery courts her own, the Unseelie, ruled by her millennium-old aunt, Queen Andais, and the Seelie, ruled by the ruthless and equally ancient King Taranis. More attention to the detective motif might have made the story more fun, but steamy prose and Meredith's obsessive personal conflicts should keep the faithful turning the pages."

The first three books of the Merry Gentry series will be made into an international bookring with a rather special shipping arrangement. Please check every single book separately for the shipping order.

Some guidelines:
1. Please journal the book when it arrives (so we know it's safe and sound with you), once you read it (to let us know how you liked it) and when you ship it off (so we know it's on its way to the next reader).

2. Please PM the next person in line before shipping the books off, not only for the adress, but also to ask if they are still interested in the ring!

3. Surface shipping is perfectly acceptable.

4. Try not to take longer than eight weeks per book.

5. And the most important thing: Have fun!

Here are the participants so far in shipping order:
1. MaryZee (US)
2. mysteryfan03 (US)
3. midwinter (US)
4. Luintaurien (US)
5. jessicaloveyou (SG) <-- asked to be skipped
travelling back to me, Morgaine77, will then coordinate and pass on to
6. cathepsut (EG) /intl.
7. CandyDarling (FI) /intl.
8. ...
9. ...
10. ...
... back to me, Morgaine77

Package arrived today, finally, and unfortunately this book was the worse for the wear. Not sure what happened to this package - either it got stuck in a machine or someone tried to run it down! This book is a bit mangled. I may try to flatten it out, but if it doesn't seem like it'll hold up for several more reads, I may visit Amazon for a cheap replacement copy.

I have one other bookring ahead of this one, so it'll be a week or so till I get to it. I'll update here when I start on it.

3/18/06 - Starting on this today.

Just finished this earlier today. I've only read one of the Anita Blake books so far, but I think I like this series much more. More fantasy, less violence, and not as dark as the Vampire Hunter. These Merry Gentry books are very creative. I love how LKH describes all the various types of characters in such a detailed manner - you can see them in front of you, based on her descriptions. But I can't imagine living in a real world with the fey; it would make for a very unusual experience!

Sending the new copy (same BCID) on to Mysteryfan03, per our pm's. This will be going out in the next trip to the po, in the next couple of days. Thanks for sharing this Morgaine77!

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters are so interesting to imagine in my mind. The only thing is that I can only see Kitto as "Dobby" EEEK! Thank you Morgaine, and MaryZee for this ring! I will be passing this on soon.

Note--Midwinter passed on this ring, so it is going to Luintaurien.

Journal Entry 15 by cathepsut from Metzingen, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Saturday, April 7, 2007
Description from Amazon:
"Faerie princess and private detective Meredith Gentry juggles love, sex, intrigue, magic, and more in this witty and sensual novel. Merry has her hands full: she's desperate to conceive a child and thereby claim the Unseelie throne; she's the target of intrigue from both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts; her newest client is an exiled goddess with a secret that could get them all killed; and a hideous fey force that alarms even her formidable lover-warriors is loose in Los Angeles."

I liked this a lot more than the first book. Perhaps because I knew what to expect? There is some storyline, every now and then, but it is more of a side event. The interesting part is the sex and the relationships. I keep wondering, how good these book would be, if they were plot driven. But then again, I am hooked now. Never mind the plot, I need to know what happens to Merry in the next book...

Waiting for the next address.
