Will be using for a bookring as soon as I finish it.

All work and no play make Amy a dull girl, or so Amy's precocious daughter tells her as she convinces Amy to try a new virtual-reality game, Buckling Swashes. Amy agrees in the hope of humoring her child, but instead she winds up in the middle of an amazingly detailed world and right in the path of Corbin, one hot pirate captain who turns out to be one of the game's creators. What they also discover is that they're caught inside the game--in a trap set by a disgruntled employee--and must work together to save the game and themselves. Combining a light sci-fi feel with contemporary characters and the game's historical setting, MacAlister's latest novel is a great "try it" book for readers who say they don't read romances with a sci-fi twist. If that doesn't hook them, most likely the charming humor of an almost-midlife--crisis mom and a not-so-alpha hero falling head over buckles for each other will do the trick.

Well after reading this book I have to say it was excellent. A wee bit slow in the first couple of chapters but then it moves right along and is very detailed. It has a bit of everything to make one happy. Adventure, romance, intrigue. WOW!
I will be sending this out to the first person on the list in a day or so. Enjoy!

A very entertaining romp, indeed!
Hearty har-haar & all that!

Here is the author Katie MacAlister's website:
http://www.katiemacalister.com/index.html

She has a quiz there which tells you which of her heroines you are like. Apparently, I'm like Alix of "Improper English". I'll have to have a look for that book, too.

Now this book is off to Ontario, Canada.

Journal Entry 6 by Antheras from Kitchener, Ontario Canada on Sunday, February 5, 2006
This arrived on Friday but I didn't get a chance to journal it until now. Can't wait to read it!

Journal Entry 7 by Antheras from Kitchener, Ontario Canada on Thursday, February 16, 2006
This was so much fun and just what I needed this week - in between all the stress and serious reading I've been doing. I'm so glad I could join this ring.

My favourite Katie MacAlisters are still the Guardian books. I'm really looking forward to the next Aisling Gray book.

I took the quiz and ended up being Alix in "Improper English" as well!

Sending this off to NeedSun.

Journal Entry 8 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Monday, February 27, 2006
This book arrived today. Thank you very much for sending it out to me. I have three bookrings to read before I can read this one. They should all be pretty quick so it won't be too long before I get this one back into circulation.

Journal Entry 9 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Thursday, March 9, 2006
This book was really cute. I would love to find an internet game like Buckling Swashes. It sounds like so much fun.

Thanks very much, Antheras, for sending it to me and thank you, terra57, for starting this ring.

It should be in the mail this weekend.

Edit Mar 12: Sent airmail today

Will get back to you soon!

Well, didn't start it as soon as I thought I would, but now I am finished and it was a hoot! Katie MacAlister is a good comedy romance writer! I liked it very much and recommend it to anyone in need of a fun "affair". We are all allowed to imagine ourselves in happy situations! I wouldn't mind being Amy for a day or two.

I'll be sending this out to CheriePie by the weekend. Happy reading.

And Thanks Terry for passing it to all of us!

Hi all!
Have been under the weather and didn't have a chance to get this book to the next person on the list as I'd said in my previous entry. I finally sent it off this morning, April 07, so CheriePie, you'll be getting it soon!

OH! I almost forgot, I took the quiz on Katie MacA's site and I am like Kathie from "Men in Kilts". Must read that one now, too!

cheers to all,
-Lemonitsa

Journal Entry 13 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Wednesday, April 12, 2006
Arrived today. I've got a couple other ring books ahead of it, plus a few still to finish reading before the Toronto Convention on 4/20 so I can bring them with me there. So just in case it takes me a little longer than my usually quick turnaround...

Journal Entry 14 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Sunday, May 21, 2006
This was an okay read. The author often went a little too heavy on the quips and trite phrases, which she openly admitted to in the afterword, but it had me gagging at times. I remember her doing this in her vampire books too. I liked the idea of the virtual reality game based on pirates, but wish there was a little less love and romance in the book overall. This book reminded me why I don't like romances that much. I think were it not for the pirate VR aspect of it, I'd have put it aside without finishing it... I've got a huge stack of other stuff to read and almost felt this wasn't worth my time, but like I said, the pirate VR aspect made it more interesting and kept me reading.

BTW, the quiz on the web site said I was most like Joy from the Vampire series. Hmmmm... I always thought she was super annoying. I guess I'll have to watch myself to make sure I really *don't* become like her!

This is heading home to terra57 on Monday 5/21 via Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation # 9102010521297313317780.

YAY! She got home today thanks to all of you. I hope you enjoyed this book at least somewhat and thanks for joining me in reading it. Have a great summer reading!
huggs,
Terry

6/15/06 Reserved for Fantasy221.

6/24/06 It looks like I won't be finishing this book afterall. I agree with CheriePie that the author went overboard on the quips and trite remarks, making Amy exactly the kind of heroine I can't stand- the kind who can't seem to shut up if her life depended on it and who doesn't have enough sense to stop talking like a 21th century bimbo, even when it has become apparent that the whole thing is no longer just a game. It's like reading one of those time travel romances where the heroine insists on talking as if she's still in 2006, something even a 15-year-old should know not to do.

Can you tell I really hated this book?
