Less quaint than A Year in Provence, less chocolatey than Chocolat, this book will tell you how to get the best of the grumpiest Parisian waiter, how to make perfect vinaigrette every time, and how not to buy a house in the French countryside.

A l'image du titre, l'humour est assez souvent dans le registre scato, à se demander si l'auteur ne se complait pas dans la merde qu'il tente de fustiger. Cependant, certaines anecdotes m'ont bien fait rigoler. Je pense particulièrement au quiproquo à propos de l'auberge du casino.
Dans l'ensemble, même si c'est souvent très exagéré, il faut bien reconnaître que parfois ça touche là où ça fait mal.
Dans le même registre, je pense qu'un auteur français pourrait facilement écrire Une fucking année, relatant les tribulations d'un exilé français dans la City.
En conclusion, je dirais que je préfère de loin, le recul, la retenue et l'humour de Peter Mayle.

Caught in the night and the rain...
Quand j'ai vu le lâcher je me suis dis « Et mince! il avait dit qu'il me l'apporterait au meet-up. » Mais finalement ç'a été l'occasion de ramasser un bonus inattendu.
J'avais commencé à le lire en 2006, quelques mois après l'avoir récupéré, mais je l'avais abandonné au cours du deuxième chapitre parce que je trouvais l'humour assez grossier. J'y suis revenu parce que j'aime quand même beaucoup les comparaisons de cultures, et de ce côté j'ai été bien servi.
