I heard this title being thrown around a lot, so I picked it up at a library book sale. It was in the children's section, so I labelled it as such at first [grin]. I also thought that, having heard it out loud, it was Jonathan Livingston Seigel and that it was a person's name, but as it turns out Jon is actually a bird... but of course it's all very allegorical and blah blah blah.

I found the story itself fairly trite, like a do-it-yourself handbook on transcendence. Maybe it was going off some big revelations at the time, but now it seems like run-of-the-mill Philosophy 101 type pondering. I was not compelled by the message; it reminds me too much of my wannabe-Buddhist ex boss who was always trying unsuccessfully to find his Zen state and had a perpetual serene expression plastered on his face that twitched ever so slightly at the edges despite his efforts to repell the negative forces of reality.

Path leading down to the seawall, on a bench overlooking the ocean... with its many seagulls.

Journal Entry 3 by wingAnonymousFinderwing on Tuesday, August 15, 2006
I just found this book today, my friend and I were walking the seawall. The book sitting there caught my eye, as well as the title of the book. I kinda walked by then went back to check it out. I checked inside and then we read the sticker. I have heard of this book alot and so I asked my friend if he wanted to read it after myself. It is an easy read and I needed a break from some work today, so I read it. It was good, I enjoyed it. It helps to open my mind up. I like little books like this. puts one in good head space. rather then putting our heads down and living our lives following what we believe we are supposed to do, this books helps remind us to open outselves up and take our own unique path. Its ok to be different, and its good to challenge ourselves. now that I have read it I have to pass it along to my friend who lives across the water. We talked that once he reads this he is going to put it at the beach on a bench and see where it ends up.
