Received yesterday, thank you! Hopefully will get round to reading it soon.

Journal Entry 4 by Fluffy-Owl from Chichester, West Sussex United Kingdom on Sunday, July 2, 2006
This was surprisingly good. Very long (almost 1000 pages, and a tiny, tiny font) but I read it quite quickly. My knowledge of 12th century England is poor to say the least, so I don't know how historically accurate it is, but I do know about Thomas Beckett being murdered in Canterbury Cathedral, so at least that was right! The storylines were excellently constructed and worked well together. I admit I skipped quite a lot (there are only so many descriptions of cathedral stones I can read!) and the copious number of rape scenes were unpleasant, so when the bad men were galloping on horseback somewhere I moved forward a few pages to avoid them!

One thing that did annoy me slightly was the fact that it's an American publication, so written in American English rather than English English...the descriptions of harsh medieval life didn't seem quite so realistic when 'trash heaps' were mentioned! (Of course, I take this comment back if that is what they were really called!)

Now off on a Relay, hope it travels well and arrives safely!

Journal Entry 5 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 5, 2006
Thanks Fluffy-Owl, this has been on my wishlist for a while so I'm chuffed! I'm just in the middle of Timeline by Michael Crichton which looks as if it is set in the same time period, so I think this will make it to the top of my TBR pile very soon so I can compare them.
