An absolutely beautiful book. Uplifting and yet saddening at the same time. It does get a little wierd at the end, which ruined the book a little bit for me, but I still highly recommend it. Gorgeous novel.

Picked up at last night's meetup. I've heard so much about this book, so when MonkeCatcher put it on the table last night I grabbed it straight away :-) Mt. TBR is growing ever larger...

Nice to meet you, MonkeCatcher, and hope to see you again at future meetups.

I didn't really expect to enjoy this book; when something is as overly-hyped and talked about as this was, I'm usually disappointed, so I've learnt to approach such books with prepared for the worst. Plus there was the whole "girl watching over her family from heaven" aspect which had the potential to become very schmaltzy. But I still wanted to read it, just to find out what all the fuss was about. And to my pleasant surprise it did turn out to be worth reading - it was an interesting slant on a story of a family recovering from loss, and heaven turned out (to my relief!) to not be too saccarine-laced or filled with angels. Spoiler follows (highlight to read): I was glad too that the author resisted the temptation to have Susie in some way lead the police to her body. I really liked the fact that they never found her body, yet her family were able to start the process of rebuilding their lives anyway. I still wouldn't say it was a great book, and there were a few aspects that were a bit annoying, but overall very readable.

Given back to MonkeCatcher at tonight's meetup so she can turn it into a bookring (even though I didn't get your email until I got home after the meetup - it was just luck that I brought it along anyway).

Sorry - bookring cancelled because of lack of interest (it appears that there is another one already being run at the moment). I will set up another in a couple of months :)
