RELEASE NOTES:

Mailed as RABCK to fellow-BXer.

Received in the mail from Bookcrosser Dunzy. He offered this copy and I replied...am very grateful (and excited) to get his RABCK and read it before the movie comes out. There's nothing like a movie, even if good, to ruin a great book!

This was a wonderful read, it doesn't move quickly but is as lovely and rich as the many beautifully described kimono. (If time ever permitted I'd like to re-read and count the kimonos) Thinking only a woman could relate each event in her life by what she wore, I found myself double checking that the author was indeed a man. The book seemed a thorough and factual accounting of the life and training of a geisha and gave small brief glances into the life in Japan during those years of WWII. It underscored the years of lessons and many arts these women had to become proficient in along with the other sad sacrifices that had to be made, particularly when they were children. Underlying was the haunting, strong and somewhat surprising love story. I was a little disappointed that we never know the male love as well as we knew other male characters.
I appreciated the opportunity to read Memoirs of a Geisha and am now searching for a new and suitable home for this book.

Decided to try a ring since the book is too good to just sit unused:
(am sending in order of response- please try to read within a month, if your too busy to read now please ask to be skipped. Mailed air mail on 2-28-06

Finished the book yesterday, and really loved it! I had to tear myself from Gion, and hated to leave Sayuri's life in the end. Now back to reality.... until the next book! :-)

Mailing to keithneese today, media.

This was by far the best book I have read this year. The story is so touching, it is beyond comparison. Thank you so much to olered for sharing this book with me. I am sending a message to OneTwoRedBlue for shipping information, and I will send the book off on Monday. I will journal again when the book is sent.
