The Novel

James Michener is widely known for his historical novels of different times and places.
This book is a bit different. It tells the story of novelist Lukas Yoder, who is about to write a book like none of his others. Interwoven with this are the stories of his editor and her life in New York, of a critic who can’t write a book of his own and of the Pennsylvania Dutch country and its history. So in a way it’s a typical Michener-book after all.
I generally liked most of Micheners books and this one is no exception. What interested me most was to see the process of the writing of a book and all the things going with it (research, rewriting, discussions with editors etc.).
Since I need room on my shelves this one goes out as RABCK or bookray – depending on how many people are interested.

Arrived in the mail this morning. Will finish my current book by the end of the week and then will start on this.
It was good to get back to Michener after many years without reading one of his books. I haven't come across another author who writes in the same style as he does, with such a rich blend of finely-drawn characters and deeply-researched settings. I can't explain any better than that what I mean, but if you've read a few of his books I'm sure you'll understand what I'm grasping at.
This would have gained a higher score from me if the "The Writer" section had been longer and "The Critic" section (which bored me a bit - I didn't like this character) had been shorter.
I'll get this in the mail to the next person soon.
