Picked this up after reading an article on Capote. Want to get it read before the movie Capote comes out.

Mailed to fellow bookcrosser in trade.
I'm so happy to have In Cold Blood in my hands finally! Thank you!
I thought I would love this book, because I loved _Other Voices, Other Rooms_, Capote's earlier work of fiction, and I loved the movie. I found the book slow-- not a nothing's-happening slow, but a why-are-we-so-fixated-on-such-an-extreme-and-irrelevant case slow. I'm not a big fan of murderers to begin with, and I found the murderers boring characters, catatonic and cold, painted by Capote with excruciating detail to make them seem human even though they are not.
I also found the premise of the book not worthy of 343 pages-- most of the book is about process, there is little analysis or summary or wrap-up of major themes.
I don't know. Maybe it's just me.
Arrived yesterday. Thanks for sharing!

Received today thank you. I'll get started on it in the next couple of days.
Wow this book was great. It was a poignant but incisive analysis of a brutal killing where four innocent people died. Capote delves not only into who did it and how did they catch them, but why did they do it, and how did their actions impact on a wider community.
There are few straight answers, and that is the beauty of the book. The actual capture of the killers seems like a sheer miracle, no conclusions are drawn into why they did it in the first place, and the impact on the community is shifting - sometimes uncertain.
It's a book which opens up some of the mysteries of mankind I suppose. But that doesn't mean its a hard read - the story is very engrossing.
The book was posted to Cally-C yesterday, though I think she's on holiday so it might be a little while before this book gets journalled.
Arrived whilst I was away, so sorry for the delay in 'catching' it!
I have quite a few rings/rays in my possesion at the moment, but I'll get to this in turn!
I liked this book very much, because I feel it deals with the facts behind the murders rather than passing comment on them.
I also felt however, that it could've been a shorter read without losing anything, though I loved the final scene.
I have PM'd safrolistics & this will be on its way soon.
Thanks for sharing BettyBoekwurm & to Littlesuz for sending on!

Recieved in the post, thankyou
Finally, I have finished this book!
This must be the longest I've ever taken reading a book! I didn't find it dull, it just didn't excite me! Really didn't have any enthusiasm for it, maybe because I knew what the outcome would be.
Hopefully the next reader will get a bit more out of it, will be posted in the next few days.

Arrived safely - many thanks Safrolistics and BettyBoekwurm!
I really enjoyed this. A controlled, engaging, measured and empathic recounting of a horrific murder and its aftermath. Where did non-fiction end and fiction begin? Is it a non-fiction account with blurred edges? Or none? I found some pictures of the Clutter family, Perry and Dick on the internet, so printed them off and will enclose them with the book for future readers.
Am waiting for tubereader's name and address to pass it on.

To tubereader
Arrived safely. Have a few rings and rays ahead of it but hopefully will manage to read it within a month. I will update this JE when I pick up the book for reading.
Thanks BettyBoekwurm for sharing and flambard for sending it to me!
JAN 11TH UPDATE: Quick update to let everyone know that I am starting to read this book today.
JAN 25TH UPDATE: Sorry it is taking me so long to get through this book. Anyway, I think I will finish it today so I have PMed Afraberg for their address. Will post a new JE with my review of the book when I finish it.
I have very much enjoyed this book. The writing was excellent. I find it quite an achievement to write such a book without passing judgement on the authors of such murders but Capote manages to do it beautifully and I think that is one of the best points of the book.
Thanks to BettyBoekwurm for sharing, it was my first book from Capote and I don't think it will be the last one!
I'm waiting for the next in line's address and will post the book as soon as I have it.
JAN 26TH UPDATE: Afraberg has asked to be skipped because she received the book as a RABCK last year so I am PMing Vunna for an address.
