I got this book based on a review in the Oregonian when looking for a light, entertaining read (plus the author had a bookcrossing account). I started it but never finished it. It was okay but I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it. Time to pass it on!

Thanks for bringing this book to the meet-up ahisma. I remember reading the article on this book in the Oregonian. It looks like it will be fun read to see what the life of a Hollywood Nanny. Plus I really like that it is a local author.

Once I am done I most likely will contact one of the bookcrossers who have this on their wish list.

Book Description
What are they like and how do they live? (Not like us) . Are the rich and famous ordinary parents? (Of course not). Is Sally Field really that sweet? (She’s sweeter) . Are Kurt and Goldie truly nuts for each other? (You bet!) . Does the Eisner family really use Mickey Mouse toilet paper on the Disney jet? (Give me an M, give me an I, give me a C!!) . What is it like to be a nanny in Hollywood? (Mostly you have to love being treated like a piece of lint found in the folds of the couch, but other than that it can be hilarious). Join Suzanne on her implausible escapades as she shares:

• Why some Moms think they can’t survive a day without a nanny
—she discovers there are parents who don’t know their children’s routine well enough to put them to bed, let alone have dinner without the nanny there to help.

The secret camaraderie she forms with other nannies—listen in on their phone conversations as they compare stories of employers spending $6,000 for a purse and then requiring the nanny to reimburse them 50 cents for a phone call.

Her painful struggle as she leaves the children she has grown to love—find out the elaborate schemes the household staff orchestrate to sneak children out to see their previous nannies without the parents’ knowledge.

Encounters with the stars—falling for Braveheart, life with the Urban Cowgirl, Jack Nicholson’s words of wisdom, life with Louie & Carla, pacifying the Sundance Kid and a hug from Bill Murray.

There were parts of this book that I found quite amusing and others not so much. This was the perfect book to pick up and read bits and pieces of in short bursts. It must have been so hard to leave the first family she nannied for in LA. The ties that she formed with the kids, or 2 out of 3, would be so hard to walk away from. It was an interesting glimpse into the Hollywood scene. I am happy to have my life here in Oregon; you could never get me to trade for the Hollywood life.

I am thrilled to have this local author go out to travel the world!

I just finished reading this, and found it wonderful. I started it, and read a bit of it, then put it aside due to other things.
When I picked it up again, I loved it, and it only took me 3 or 4 days to finish it.

I really liked this book.

I already have the next BCer's addy, so I will send it to her as soon as I get a little bit of cash (about a week).

I will always remember this book. Not because it was good, but because it was the one that I was finishing as I had a severe gallstone attack and ended up having emergency surgery. I ended up finishing it earlier this week, while heavily sedated in the hospital.

I don't want to sound like I didn't enjoy this book, I did. I found many of Hansen's stories to be very entertaining and even touching. It was light reading, which worked out well while trying to read on morphine!!!

Thank you to kbgoffe for sharing this fun book. I am mailing it out to the next reader tomorrow morning!!!

I had thought this was a follow up book or a similar one. I am so forgetful that I ended up asking for this book again. I have already enjoyed this book and hopes the next participant on the list does as well.

Karenlea --so sorry to hear that you had a galstone & surgery.

Received! I've got one or two before this one, but by the looks of the cover, this will be a light, quick read. I'll journal more upon finishing. Thanks for sharing!

I really enjoyed this book, included a surprise in the package for the next reader. I was actually surprised at how well the author wrote for the style of book, I didn't feel she was trite at all. Sounds like, despite the troubles, a fun job overall. Sent to the next reader today.

Journal Entry 13 by Jumieges from Gordonsville, Virginia USA on Friday, February 23, 2007
Got it! Thanks for the other 2 books, too, mrsordonez. I was surprised to see them and frankly, I forgot all about this book, so I was wondering why someone I don't know would be sending me a birthday present. :) I'll read this quickly and get it off to the next person!

This book was a riot to read! Her stories were just so "out there" that I had to stop and remember that yes, this all happened, it's not fiction. As soon as I have Hellie's address, I'll post it to her.

*edit* Mailed off to Hellie in the UK this morning.
