Shannon's difficulty breaking up with Gary drives her to stay with her aunt, and there she discovers that she is pregnant. To take her mind off her situation, her aunt teaches her to quilt. And Shannon takes to it like a duck to water. Enter the good-looking neighbor, Brian. He and Shannon find in each other the answers to a vague and unsettling future. Brian hides a childhood that he would just as soon forget. Shannon needs a father for her baby. Together they will face the ups and downs of married life as strangers--yet somehow soulmates.
Mary Taffs always tells an honest, yet love-filled tale. She doesn't skirt the truth about human frailty, dysfunctional people, and healing relationships. I especially like this book because it focuses on the male central character's search for his identity, in contrast to so many other romances (fine ones!) who tend to center on the female central character. You'll find Brian and Shannon as real as the folks next door. And their heartaches are every bit as real, too. If you love quilting, you'll love the symbol of the quilt that Mary Taffs 'stitches' into the theme of the story.
