Spent a lot of time in Liverpool when I was growing up. I first read this book when I was about 12, roughly the same age as the narrator and found it hugely moving, and it did (briefly probably) make me very grateful for all that I had. I returned to it recently and enjoyed it all over again, but now it is time to let it go.
It tells the story of a poverty-stricken childhood in Liverpool during the 1930s.

Netstation foisted this on me, saying I'd really enjoy it.
I pointed out that being a fairly modern Northerner I'd grown up with shampoo and other such luxuries, but he said something about literary merit to shut me up.
