A book my wife bought and started reading but just could not get into.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great: they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they're great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides that they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything) thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs, they decide to form a sisterhood and take the vow of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And then the journey of the pants — and the most memorable summer of their lives — begins.

I loved this book! I could not put it down. After reading the prologue, I just had to go out to the thrift store and buy myself a neat pair of jeans. I found the best pair I've had in many, many years and am wearing them now as I type. Can you tell I could relate to this book and the characters in it?

Reading "Sisterhood" made me feel like a young teenager again. I guess this book is a bit humourous, but I cried 'way more than I laughed. I feel like I actually lived this story. It touched me profoundly. Some of it is predictable, but that didn't lessen its impact.

Journal Entry 8 by macdonv from Windsor, Ontario Canada on Sunday, November 20, 2005
What a great story. I just zipped through it, and like Brookler, I laughed, I cried.

I could totally relate to these girls - like Tibby, I've had that summer job that feels like it will never end; like Lena, I can remember feeling outside of everything, and thinking that's the way I wanted it. The author seems to well remember what it was like to be a teenager, and conveys it convincingly and perceptively in this book.

Now I must search out "The Second Summer of the Sisterhood".

Thanks, efs300, for sharing this with us!

Have PM'd heartsong2 for the next address, and will have this book travelling again in no time.

What a great story.

My favorite line: "Noiseless drops of guilt colored Carmen's pleasure. She was almost five- seven, but her mother wasn't even five feet tall. Her dad called her bun and said she was beautiful, but he didn't care about her mom anymore." p.53

My favorite chapter name: "What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say. --Ralph Waldo Emerson" p.242

My favorite scene: The description of the interview with Brian McBrian. begins on page 150.

I also loved Bailey's philosophy, and Mimi, the guinea pig.

I am most like Lena.

I don't mean to be giving away anything from the story. It was a great one! Thank you for sharing. Posted to T02S03B11D20 12/23/05!

Clearly this is a YA book, and not what I usually read, but with all the hype, I was curious. I found it to be a not-so-bad book. Whether or not I will eventually read the sequels, however, I don't know at this point. Have PM'd the next person in line, so far no answer.

Just received it...finishing another bookray and will get to it. Hope having seen the movie doesn't spoil reading the book.

Gee, I wish I hadn't seen the movie first. I still enjoyed the book which is of course more detailed but it still took away from the book. It will be on it's way to tiffany7 as soon as I have an address. Thanks for being patient with me. I ended up in hospital with pneumonia and without this book. So it set me back a bit.
