I've heard a lot about this author, so decided it's time that I read one of her books to see for myself.

BLurb from back of the book:
"When the call came in, Detective Peter Decker could hardly beleive it. A rape oa the Yeshiva up in the canyon and hill country behind Las Angeles! True, there'd been some recent anti-Semetic vandalism but never ever any violence.

Not only that, but this was a strict Orthodox Jewish community, self-enclosed and suspicious of outsiders. Not much chance they'd co-operate with the police.

And he was right. Rina Lazarus, the young widow who'd found the victim and rung the police, tried to explain the religious practices that stopped them helping. An insight into a fascinating world coming from a frustratingly fascinating woman.

But, outsider though he might be, as a policeman he felt in his bones that the cost to the community of their determined privacy could turn out to be murderously high."

An interesting insight into Jewish culture and rituals and the importance of some rituals to the lives of Jewish women. Not a bad murder/mystery - will look out for more of this author's books.

This is the 100th book that I've registered, so it will be sent to someone who has it on their wishlist as a RABCK.

I was so keen to read this book, it is mentioned in lots of other Dectective Decker books and it is the first meeting between him and Rina Lazarus .. so I was thrilled when it was sent to me as a RABCK.

Again a wonderful read, I adore learning more about the Jewish community and lifestyle. It was good to have background on the start of Peter & Rina's relationship ( yep it would help if I read the books in order .. I know ! ) Not her best thriller, her plots have definately improved in the later books but certainly kept me interested.

Thanks again for sending this my way, I hope to do you proud by getting this book to travel, will start by offering it out on BCUK.

Seasons Greetings to you & yours ...

Denise xx

* edit note - didn't realize my son was signed in ( alphaforce ) and not me ( nocton4 ) hence change of name .. sorry x

The weekend found me with time to read so I finished "The Outside Man" and read this book too, finished on the train tonight!! Really enjoyed it, it filled in some gaps in the personal history between Peter Decker and Rina and I agree with previous entries that the books have improved as they've developed but I loved it all the same.

Ready now for Kamathe.

RELEASE NOTES:

Next person in the bookring - on its way to Kamathe. Hope you enjoy it..........

Arrived in the post today. I've got a couple of rings prior to this one, but I will try to read it and pass it on asap :o)
Thanks for sharing, and for giving me the chance to read it!

I enjoyed this. The story was well-paced and the characters were rounded and believable. Every now and again I found that the two sides to Decker seemed like different people, but that happens in life, too!

Having read the other jounal entries, it seems like the relationship between the two main characters develops further in other books, which is good because it seems like a strong bond. I was wondering if it would be continued, or just left unfinished. And it seems like the books have improved later in the series, so I will try to keep an eye out for more books by Faye Kellerman with Peter Decker in them :o)

Thanks for sharing! I've got Rillaith's new address, so I'll post this on to her sometime this week, but I think she's got a lot of bookrings with her at the moment, so I won't rush to post it off! Right, on to the next book...

My apologies, I thought I had already journalled it's arrival.

This was a great book ... gripping, engaging, well-written, and much better than her husband's books (although I like them well enough). I've been nothing but impressed with the two of her books I've read so far and will be seeking out more of them!

If Wistful is at The Clarence tomorrow, I shall pass it on, otherwise it will come with me to the Uncon, for I know for sure that she will be there.

Thanks so much for offering this one!

Rillaith passed this book to me at the wonderful Unconvention, saying she knew it had to go to me but she couldn't remember why. I'm so glad I didn't find out that it was for one of my OBCZs until after I read it, as it was brilliant! As per request I shall release it at the Clarence tomorrow. Thank you!
