Taking to the Canterbury mini meet
A friend brought me along to a meeting of Kent book crossers, where I got the book and have joined as a result. The bookcrossers were very friendly and I look forward to reading it!
An interesting book based on the authors impoverished family life. Set in late 1800's London it touches upon social class. Fundamentally it is a demostration of one women's struggle (namely the authors mother) to provide for her family. In a world where a Father's wealth was as a much a determining factor for engagment to be married than a daugther's attractivness, we see how her courage holds the family together and saves them from social disgrace despite all the odds.
