Another excellent book from Irving, whose novels I only discovered this year. The underlying concept is intriguing, medically and personally. It's got me wondering, though - is there something to know about the author that he has used arms and hands as a theme more than once? It is the visible representation of amputated personalities? My grandfather has managed most of his life with only one hand, able to tie his shoelaces and all. It's becoming an issue now he has arthritis in the remaining one.

The actual book has a different cover.

My daughter and husband were bedded-down with traveler's woes, so I took a day to relax and read. I found the book in the hotel library. It is a novel concept and a not-bad story. Not Irving's best, but worth a read.

Not one of Irving's best but still a compelling read.
