When I first started reading it I thought it was slightly over-detailed; you know, "cut those descriptions and let's get some action". But after a few pages more (say, 50? 75? 100?) I appreciated the many subtleties woven into the plot thanks to those long and seemingly futile descriptions etc., I complained about before.
The characters have got well defined personalities, with weaknesses and strength in all of them, which makes them very human, very realistic.
The plot is very interesting, even if takes a little while for the book to actually get started. The final climax is well constructed and it makes little concesion to romance - it stays in the realm of the probable and possible rather than closing the book with a happy ending and a big kiss. And that is something to be appreciated in a work of fantasy: it is fantastic because it moves you to another world altogether, yet it is not a fairy tale (too fantastic and utterly incredible) because it is coherent and quite honest.
A very, very enjoyable book, therefore, and I can't thank jfroebe enough for his kindness.

I found this book in a pub (The Dragon in Kemp Town) and picked it up - not because the book appealed but because the idea of a travelling book did.
I'm not generally a fan of fantasy books, but when I went off sick recently I started reading and got drawn right in to the story. A good yarn with classic characters, lots of adventures and generally sunny outcomes which is an exceptionally easy read - doesn't get much better than that when the rest of you is feeling really rough.
Looking forward to releasing this - I commute to London, so I think I will let it go on the train and see where that takes it (If it gets anywhere it'll be very late and will cost a fortune, but there you go, that's a common commuting experience in the UK). Also looking forward to browsing through my own books to release some new ones into the wild. Great concept, thanks everyone.
