Journal Entry 1 by Sabavana from Abermain, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, January 5, 2006
This book contains 50 simple, everyday actions that are easy for anyone to do. And if enough of us actually do them, we really will change the world. With contributions from across Australia, this book shows how a single person can truly make a difference.

Journal Entry 2 by Sabavana from Abermain, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, January 5, 2006
What an amazing little book! I never realised that there are so many *little* things that I could do to make the world a better place. You don't have to be a huge multi-national corporation to make a difference, the difference starts with us little guys. If nobody did anything, assuming they couldn't make a difference, then we're all kinda doomed (ok that was a bit dramatic, but you know what I mean!).

I've discovered that alot of the Actions I'm already doing, which is good, but there's definately alot more I can do -- the main one I think will be participating in the Clean Up Australia Day on 5th March, plus some other everyday changes.

And, in amongst the 50 things you can do to change the world, is Action #33 - recycle your books! And guess which website is mentioned??? :-)

I'd like to send this little book on an International BookRay -- it was written for Aussies but of course anyone can do it!

On it's way to fushmush - travel well, little book.

Journal Entry 5 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, January 29, 2006
Received in the mail today. Hey I'm doing Action 33: Recycle your books right now!

Journal Entry 6 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, February 22, 2006
Ok, I've had this one long enough; time to send it on. Like Sabavana, I already do a lot of these, but, I'm going to try and do 3 new things this year:
(12) Turn off appliances at the mains
(26) Give Blood (I've never done this before!)
(44) Particpate in Clean Up Australia Day. They are cleaning up the park across the road from my house so I have no excuse.

Journal Entry 7 by star1978 from Braddon, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Tuesday, February 28, 2006
I received this today and I like it straight away. I've already read all of it so will send it on in the next couple of days. I've also done quite a few of the actions but have come across some new actions that I can and will do. The main one that stuck out was action 21: find out about how your superannuation is invested. To be honest I hadn't really given this much thought but it's something that really appeals to me. My partner chose to do Action 12: Turn off appliances at the mains. We weren't really aware of how much electricity our VCR was using even on 'standby' so it will go off tonight.. especially considering we only watch TV about once a fortnight! I will also probably end up buying a copy of the book for myself and a friend as well as a couple of other things in this book. Thanks for starting the ring Sabavana.. very cool idea for a bookring!

Journal Entry 10 by amberC from Darwin, Northern Territory Australia on Tuesday, March 7, 2006
I love this book. it's full of god, many simple, ideas that can make a difference.

i already do quite a few of the actions in this book.

i am working on number 11; Get Fitter, Feel Better

i hadn't thought of number 29; recycle your computer, but will keep it in mind when we replace a computer.

i will work on
number 36; Take Time to Listen
number 37; Don't Overfill Your Kettle and
number 43; Buy fair Trade Products.

thankyou sabavana for doing number 33.....and sharing this book.

The sharing to be continued tomorrow when it is posted to leeny37

Journal Entry 11 by leeny37 from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Received today at the office! A colleague was actually browsing through this today, he said he would journal it but I think he got interrupted halfway through the process! Oh well, at least I'm kinda infecting people, hee hee. This looks like a really quick one, after I finish it, I will be loaning it to another colleague, but I will be sure to send it on its way soon enough. Thanks Sabavana! :)

Journal Entry 12 by leeny37 from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Like the others before me, I already do a few of these things but some need to be improved and there are some new things that I can do!

1. Action #42: Recycle your old glasses

This one never occured to me and I can definitely take action here. As it is, there are already a few pairs between my partner and myself lying around at home, so I will be taking them to Visioncrest Optometrists in Southland.

2. Action #26: Give Blood

I used to give blood back home in Singapore and also recently became a blood donor in Australia. I would like to do this regularly, and hopefully also get my partner to do it. I haven't been successful, but I will keep trying!

3. Action #25: Recycle your clothes

I have packed up a few boxes of clothes and have been meaning to bring them to a Salvation Army store near me but somehow, I still haven't done it. I will just need to give myself a kick in the butt and get this done and I hope to clean out my wardrobe regularly and donate items that I know I won't be wearing anymore!

I also wanted to point out a couple of things that will be hard for me to do. Action #17: Try watching less TV - sorry folks, this just won't apply. I readily admit that I'm a TV junkie and I don't seem myself cutting out TV anytime soon. My justification - most of my TV-watching is while I do the ironing and no ads! Hee hee....

Action #38: Let at least one car in on every journey - this one will also be a little tough for me. I don't think I have road rage (nothing major anyway, just the occasional swear word *grin*) but I am quite an impatient driver. I do let cars in when I perceive the drivers as "nice" but I hate giving way to those whom I feel are asshole drivers, hee hee. I will attempt to change my driving behaviour but yeah, I think this one will take a while, not something that I can change instantly.

Anyways, enough rambling from me! I will be passing this on to a colleague and when she returns it to me, I will send it on to magicjessnrach.

RELEASE NOTES:

My colleague has returned this to me (unfortunately, no journal entry!) and I will be sending it on its way to magicjessnrach. This will be mailed out via a prepaid Express Post satchel, tracking #: SV4207923.

On its way to the next participant. The whole family checked out this little book. It affirmed that we are indeed an environmental family. There wasn't a hint that was new to us but we are all going to be extra careful in everything we do!

Loved the mention of bookcrossing :)

Journal Entry 20 by hunnyb from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, April 26, 2006
Wonderful! Complete with great illustrations (particularly the share the bath one - action 8, tee hee), it's full of interesting facts and useful hints. I had no idea that putting the VCR on standby uses almost as much electricity as one playing a tape (action 12). And we use 300 plastic bags each, every year (action 2)?? Argh!!

Thanks for sharing this, it's great food for thought. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the things that I do already. I've PM'ed Wirigerie for an address.

Journal Entry 21 by Wirigerie from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Received safely in the mail and discovered on a side table where my house mate had put it and then conviently forgot to tell me a parcel had arrived. GGGGRRRRRR!!!! Non readers #$@$%%^$#!!!

Journal Entry 22 by Hearth-Crafter from Albury, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, December 19, 2006
Received this today...will prob read in the new year - thankx for the bookmark Wirigerie!

Oops! I've had this and it's travelling partner way too long...read this today (read Make Poverty History ages ago and just had to read this one). Have sent a message to the next reader and these 2 will be on their merry way ASAP!

As for the book, a quick easy to read book for ppl who don't like reading, this gets the green info out there to more ppl that way.

I already knew all the info (I recommend 365 Ways To Save The World)but this and my reading of 365...which I am still reading has given me the incentive to actually put into practise the things I haven't gotten around to actually doing.

Such as:-

Eliminate Using Plastic Bags - Get Reusable Material Bag.
Actually Taking My Father's Glasses To Be Donated.
Same With Old Mobiles To Be Recycled.
Try To Shop Locally and Organically.
Recycle Very Old Computer (at least scrap it for metal).

Most other things I already do, but I will implement them more strictly where and when I can.

Thankx for the opportunity to read these two books!

So sorry that I hogged these books for such a long time (sorry), I posted them off to Melanie yesterday! Thankx!

Journal Entry 23 by Melanie2474 from Narrabundah, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Friday, June 29, 2007

Journal Entry 24 by Melanie2474 from Narrabundah, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, June 30, 2007
Another one that's quick to read but big on education. Felt a little smug to find I am already doing Actions 1-7, 8 (albeit with showers not baths), 10-11, 12 (although not having much success getting husband to do the same), am preparing to do 13 with some outdated phones that aren't worth selling, 14, 15, 19, 20, 23, I counted 24 even though I don't smoke because I encourage my few smoker friends to do so, 25, 26, 29-33 (obviously 33!), 34 (well my husband does in exchange for use of their unused carport from one neighbour and free clothing alterations from another), 36-41, 45-47 (I'm counting sharing this book as buying it) and 50! Wow, what an effort.

However, I still think there's a lot I can do. I'm going to start with 9 (learning more about the Ngunnawal people who are the traditional owners of Canberra), 16 (it's simple and will get all those pesky 5c pieces out of my wallet) and 22 (make a will even though I don't have much to leave behind). These are all quick and simple things I can do to make a difference.

This book was worth the wait. I will contact the next participant shortly.

A fabulous book! I went online right away and found a Canadian edition that I'll be picking up sometime soon, I hope. Some of the actions kind of confused me, like have a bath with someone you love, and others made me giggle, like let at least one car in on every journey.

I have the next address, I'll be dropping this in the mail if not tomorrow than Monday for sure.

ETA: Boy, is my face red... This got wrapped up and addressed but never mailed. It did get mailed last night as soon as I discovered it while unpacking after moving.

Journal Entry 28 by Lobodyke from Bardstown, Kentucky USA on Saturday, December 15, 2007
Oh, how I love to receive a book in the mail on a rainy day (or any other day-LOL)! Normally, I could get through a book like this very quickly, but with it being the holiday season, I anticipate it will be after the new year before I finish it off and mail it.

Journal Entry 29 by Lobodyke from Bardstown, Kentucky USA on Wednesday, December 19, 2007
I was actually able to get through this book much quicker than I thought. I carried it in the car, and every time I was in line (bank, Wendy's, etc.), I read a few entries. I thought all the ideas were good, and the only reasons I gave it an 8 instead of a 10 were (1) it's geared to Australian readers so some websites, etc. don't apply, (2) one of the ways to "change the world" would have been not to have so much wasted space, and thus use less paper, plus using recycled paper instead of the slick, clay-coated kind, and (3)some of the actions didn't apply to me, #13 (I don't have a cell phone) and #24 (I don't smoke anymore). I'm happy to say I've actually done 29 of the 50 proposed actions, but I'm going to make a list of the rest and work on all the ones that apply.

Even though I've finished reading this, it will be the first week of the New Year before it gets mailed. I'm leaving to go out of town very soon, and won't have time to get to the P.O. before that.

Journal Entry 30 by Lobodyke from Bardstown, Kentucky USA on Saturday, January 26, 2008
My apologies to everyone in this ray after me. I misplaced the other book that's riding along with this one, and didn't want to send this until I found it. I did finally find it yesterday in a coat pocket, so I'll send both of them on at the beginning of next week.

Journal Entry 31 by Lobodyke from Bardstown, Kentucky USA on Sunday, January 27, 2008
I enjoyed this book, but did find that I have actually done or am already doing many of the things in the book. However, I'm going to endeavor to do these in addition:

#11. Get fitter, feel better.

#23. Have more meals together.

#45. Give your phone number to 5 people in your street.

A positive about the book is that many of the actions were ecologically-minded, but a negative on this side for me is that the book's graphics/photos were unnecessarily -- thus using more paper -- and the paper was the traditional clay-coated type, printed with regular ink -- rather than recycled paper and soy-based ink. This is the main reason I lowered my rating on the book.

This was an interesting little book. My sincere apologies for having it a bit too long. I should have it in the mail to gomboggit this week. So many of these suggestions are things I have been doing for a long time. There are a few that don't apply or that I can't do (such as giving blood, in the US, gay men are still prohibited from doing so), but some things I definitely will take into consideration:
#21 - Find Out How Your Money Is Invested
#28 - Seize The Moment
#45 - Give Your Phone Number To 5 People In Your Street
