I bought this today from the Princess Alice Hospice charity shop in Addlestone. I already have another copy of it (which I haven't read yet, so I can't write a review, but it's been recommended a lot on the forums) but this copy is to bring to the Treasure Hunt in London tomorrow.

This was the first book I selected from the Treasure Hunt lucky dip .... MyopicMeringue, what a coincidence that you chose one of my books AND one of my fiancé's (zb), and I actually bought the books for him to take! Do you think we may have rather similar tastes in reading, or is it just BookCrossing serendipity working its magic?

Anyway, I haven't read this, or seen the film, but I know it's well thought of, so it will join Mount TBR and hopefully get read at some point. Mind you, as about 99% of Mount TBR is currently in the garage as we haven't worked out shelving in our new house yet, I reckon this one's got a fair chance of being read reasonably quickly!

Ahe,m, okay, a year on I've got about two thirds of my books in from the garage and have found plenty among them to get me reading before this ..... so I reckon this one is destined to stay on Mount TBR forever, I'm afraid. Time to get this moving on to a new home.

Picked up at the Cherry Tree meet on Sunday 29th October. Sorry for delay in 'catching' - I worked away last week and had my parents to stay over the weekend.

Thanks for this Becky received at the Swindon Unconvention in October 2010 to add to my mount TBR.

I found this book really difficult to get into as I did not like the writing style - it felt jerky and did not flow for me. The descriptions are partial in some ways and but detailed about certain things that get repeated too often in my view, without adding to the story - especially Quoyle covering his chin.
However I am really pleased I kept going with it is it really improved once the story moved to Newfoundland and expands to include the distinctive community and world the family joins. There are a wide range of interesting character that captured my interest.
