This is the 3rd book in Kim Harrison's Hollows series.
There's no witch in Cincinnati tougher, sexier, or more screwed up than bounty hunter Rachel Morgan, who's already put her love life and her soul in dire jeopardy through her determined efforts to bring criminal night creatures to justice.
Between "runs", she has her hands full fending off the attentions of her blood-drinking partner, keeping a deadly secret from her backup, and resisting a hot new vamp suitor.
Rachel must also take a stand in the war that's raging in the city's underworld, since she helped put away its former vampire kingpin—and made a deal with a powerful demon to do so that could cost her an eternity of pain, torment, and degradation.
And now her dark "master" is coming to collect his due.

I really liked this book. I've enjoyed watching Rachel's character become more proficient in her magick throughout the 3 books of this series. And mmmm... yummy Kisten... I'm glad he's playing a more prominent role in this book too, and we get to learn more about him as a person. (And that Rachel is finally ready to kick Nick to the curb as she turns an admiring eye towards Kisten. But I won't say too much there and ruin it for you.)
Ivy is no longer vamping out all the time over Rachel, and their relationship, while still very platonic, is less stressed than it was in the previous book.
That said, I think I still liked the 2nd book the best so far of these three, although this is still a very close 2nd, tied with the first one.
I'll be sending this book out on a private invitation-only bookring among some of my BC friends... you know who you are. :)

Received the book yesterday, thanks!
I just finished Every Which Way But Dead, and loved it! I agree with everything CheriePie wrote in her review. Kisten was my favorite character in Dead Witch Walking, and I'm glad to see he has a bigger role in this book, as I was disappointed to see so little of him in The Good, The Bad, and the Undead.
Plot-wise, I'd say the previous book was the best so far, because the murdered ley line witches made an interesting mystery. The third book about Rachel Morgan took a while to get going (I think the book only really took off when Rachel went out on her date with Kisten, and that was around page 150), and the overall plot was a bit disjointed and confusing. I think it's great that there are so many things going on in Rachel's life and in the Hollows, but unfortunately I tend to lose sight of the whole too often.
There's something in Kim Harrison's writing style that bothers me a bit, because it always takes me so long to get through her books. They fail to draw me in completely, and I have to remind myself to pick them up again. And yet, while I'm reading, I'm enjoying myself, although I've had to put down the book a few times because I've read too long and I'm too tired to continue. (That never happens with certain other authors.) I think Kim Harrison's writing style is too slow at times, and too heavy at others, and I keep forgetting the important details.
I loved to see Rachel developing her skills in this book, and to see her become more at ease with herself and others. I'm glad she and Ivy are less tense together, and especially that Rachel no longer hates herself for being attracted to Kisten. I really like Trent as a character, and I'm extremely curious to see what happens with Ceri. I love the Hollows, and all the chraters who inhabit Kim Harrison's books. I'm very much looking forward to reading A Fistful of Charms and For a Few Demons More. (Too bad the series is now being released in hardcover, I prefer paperbacks.)
Thank you CheriePie for sending out these books as rings! I really appreciate having been able to read them, and I'm sorry for having kept these books for longer than I should have. Rachel will travel to gypsyrose02 in Australia tomorrow.

Can't wait to read this one! Thanks Cherie for sharing and thank you, Sally, for sending it to me.
Finally, Ivy and Rachel's relationship is more relaxed. That was the one thing that ruined books 1 and 2 for me. It would be much too dificult to maintain that level of tension in your own home over such an extended period of time so it caused me to find the books unbelievable.(LOL...nothing to do with witches and vamps).
Thank you, Cherie, for your patience in allowing me to keep the book for so long. Both Boogle and Kyrissaean asked to be skipped so I am about to PM Bookrabbit.
Edit June 30: Everyone asked to be skipped so I am going to hang onto this until I have something else to mail to Cherie....Thanks again, Cherie!
Edit Jan 15/09: Sent by surface mail today
