Ok, I was going to help Frey be more honest, so I put this book in fiction. lol! ;)
Well, the short story is that I could not finish the book. Not, that I was overcome with anger by him lying. We all know memoirs have fabricated excitement. Just that I got so bored with his anger, sadness, and hate. He so badly wanted to give up that I an in turn gave up on the book. It was too depressing. I forced myself to stay with it through page 80 because my friend told me the dentist scene was 'so moving'. Well, all I can say is thanks to smokinggun.com we now know he made the whole trip to the dentist up. At least the part about no sedatives/novacaine whatever. I in turn did think the dentist scene was moving, moving to make me sick. Not impressed.

Well all that said, turtle I hope you enjoy it more than I did. I would send the receipt along so you could return it, lol! But, alas I don't have it.

This book came in the mail...

I have to say that the whole controversy had really peaked my curiosity more in this book, although it will sort of ruin the whole aspect of it being true for me because when I read a book that is supposed to be nonfiction, I think... “Wow! A real person actually went through that!?!?!" Granted, many non-fiction/ memoir writers do fabricate the tales, but they aren't extremely indulged. Thank cougmax for sending this book along. It'll be an interesting read but I think that it will be worthwhile. ;-)

Finished this not to long ago. I did stop toward the middle as I became fustrated with the whole there-is-no-hope-for-me-therefore-I-understand-the-world-better-than-anyone-else bit. It does provide interesting insight, but I think this book wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. I would still suggest to read it though.

OK this has gone on a temporary holiday with lovepurple1 and should return to me later. Funny I had moved it to the front of my newly rearranged shelves yesterday meaning to read it soon, and then Ms Purple liked the look.... great minds?

I started to read this and I SO tried to have an open mind about it - I've not heard that much about the truth vs fiction thing but I could NOT get it out of my head that this book just wasn't what it seemed and it made it all feel so bloody self indulgent! I dunno if it's because I've worked in the substance misuse field or what but I just can't be getting on with this guy. So I am going to take it to the Greenwich meet up on 25th Jan and hope that some else gets more enjoyment from it than I did.
