It's good - I'm worried I'll rate it too highly. Is it still good without the pleasure of meeting old friends from Neuromancer? Does it stand by itself? I suppose the question is irrelevant for what seems like a sequel. Just in case I release this and Neuromancer seperately, the book is set in a dystopian future, where the internet is accessed using virtual reality terminals, physical and genetic self-modification is commonplace (albeit expensive) and corruption and corporations continue to rule.

This doesn't do it justice.
I admit, it sounds dull, tired and hackneyed.
The key might well be in the mixture of characters trying to keep their heads above water, or in the acknowledgement of lives continuing unabated, or perhaps simply in the way the situations are revealed; only at the point of intrusion into characters' lives. It doesn't scream, warn, criticise or preach - at least, not in the fashion of most dystopian novels. Give it a go, but preferably after reading Neuromancer!
