This was a delightful book. I enjoyed it even though I haven't read a lot of Jane Austin. It is set in California's Central Valley, where I live, so I hope to wild release it locally.

The Jane Austen Book Club arrived yesterday and was immediately intercepted on its way to the TBR shelf by my husband, who promised to take good care of it until I finish my current "read." We really enjoy discussing books at our house and I can tell we're in for some good conversation with this one. Thank you, JenLuvsBooks, for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

I am FeralReader's dyslectic husband. Reading requires so much mental effort for me that I rarely read as many as half-a-dozen books in a year, but when "The Jane Austen Book Club" arrived in the mail as a RABCK from JenLuvsBooks, I was so intrigued by its premise, the rave reviews on the back, and its location in the town where we live that I immediately decided to try to read it. I was richly rewarded for my efforts!

I can think of only two books that I have re-read for pleasure in my entire life ("Huckleberry Finn" and "Cannery Row"), but the moment I finished "The Jane Austen Book Club" I had a strong urge to begin the book all over again in order to get to know the characters better, and I am savoring some of the wonderful surprises that the author had lurking in wait for me.

Thank you, JenLuvsBooks; and thank you, thank you, thank you, Karen Joy Fowler.

I just finished reading this book, and am feeling a bit sorry that I did not find it quite as engaging as my husband did. I must say that the parts of the book that I enjoyed, I enjoyed very much, indeed. Usually I find allegory very appealing, but in this case I did not know the referenced subject (Jane Austen's works) well enough to understand the clever plot lines. Karen Joy Fowler is clearly a keen observer of people and their surroundings (she certainly described my home town accurately), and I love the attention she gives to detail and nuance. Thanks again to JenLuvsBooks.

I found this title on a BookCrossing friend's wish list, so off it shall go...to Finland!

Tusen tack FeralReader!!!

What I wonderful surprise to find this book in my mailbox, together with a beautiful postcard! I read the Finnish translation a few weeks ago and thought that I should read it again, parallel with Jane Austen's books. So if JenLuvsBooks and FeralReader do not mind, this one will stay in my 'permanent collection', at least for a while.

I took the book on my vacation to Hamburg in order to read it there. After a while, however, I noticed that my knowledge about Jane Austen's work is not profound enaugh to really enjoy the remarks in that book. A friend of our family then got interested in the book (herself a huge Jane Austen fan) and so I left it behind for her to read and to set it free whenever she will be finished with that book.
