The Namesake: A Novel

Jhumpa Lahiri is a wonderful writer.
I got this book from a friend. I think its ready to travel, but I want to make sure that it makes its way to someone who will appreciate it.
RABCK pending. (k)
Here's a snippet from the book jacket:
"On the heels of their arranged marriage, Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli settle together in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An engineer by training, Ashoke adapts far less warily than his wife, who resists all things American and pines for her family. When their son is born, the task of naming him betrays the vexed results of bringing old ways into the new world. Named for a Russian writer by his Indian parents in memory of a catastrophe years before, Gogol Ganguli knows only that he suffers the burden of his heritage as well as his odd, antic name."

Will be sent to DrScarlett13 on Saturday (8/27/05)
I never heard back from the person I contacted for an RABCK and since DrScarlett13 gave me the book to begin with I thought I should let her read it.
When DrScarlett13's done we'll try to send off a RABCK. (k)

I loved the book up until the last part. I don't want to give away what happens but for some reason stories that have that in it kind of kill my liking for it. I also thought the ending was kind of nothing. Seemed so un-final. However I loved it until that certain thing began hapening...
RABCK to DianaCoats in process!
oh my! i was offered this book as a RABCK and then i moved a week earlier than expected from california to oregon! luckily, the USPS sent the book on to my new home. i want to thank morsecode for her kind "donation" to my reading addiction and humbly beg forgiveness for seeming so unappreciative of her effort. in the throes of my moving i totally forgot the book was headed my direction. thank you, thank you, thank you. will journal again after i finish it and then offer it to another bookcrosser.
Ok...I had just finished Middlesex the day I started this book so I took about fifty pages to readjust to a different writing style. That being said...she is a wonderful writer. And...just to throw in my two cents...I am a person that never reads the end of a book before the end...NEVER. After reading the previous journaler, it was really hard for me not to read the end. I was afraid the end was going to spoil the book for me. Well, true to different strokes for different folks, I thought the ending was well suited and totally "in character". Truly a great read I am going to offer this as a RABCK to someone else.
This book is now travelling to a new home with bartonz in Bellevue Washington. Here's hoping they have a wonderful read together.
I reveived it as a Random Act of Book Kindness by DianaCoats. I'll post a review when I'm finished reading! Thank you all so much.
