This is a quirky story of a Chinese man who undertakes to find a safe place to deposit an odd woman he has come across in the woods in the late 1800s. The story starts there and travels through the Pacific Northwest where there are a variety of strange and intriguing people who come in and out of the story. Woven into the story are fascinating historical facts. I enjoyed this thoroughly.
Picked up at August meeting of the TriValley BookCrossing group. Looks like a great read... thanks, PleasantRead!
November 13 -- Interesting, creative, definitely unusual story of some unique characters in the Pacific Northwest and California, in the late 1800's. A shanghai'd Chinaman, a suffragette, and various characters escaped from a mental asylum... undergo equally bizarre adventures. You can't call this book rollicking, as it is far too dark... but I can imagine it being made into a cult movie.
Book released at the December 13 meeting of the TriValley Book Crossings group.

Thanks, J! I'll let you know what I think of it, as soon as I read it. (Don't hold your breath, though. Mt. TBR is threatening to crush me and my whole family at this time). ;)
An interesting book - great characters, and I enjoyed the historical setting. By the end, though, I felt a bit unsettled by all that had happened, which is why I didn't give it a higher rating. Worth the read, though. This will be on its way back to Pleasantread very soon. :)
Picked up tonight.
