I read this book so long ago that I was surprised to find it on my bookshelf. I thought I had checked it out from the library. The writing was wonderful but I didn't get into the story as much as I thought I would. Never saw the movie, either.

This is a hardcover book in very good condition with different cover art than the image displayed. One thing that's weird is that the ISBN on the dust jacket does not match the ISBN inside the book.

Journal Entry 4 by ahimsa from Beaverton, Oregon USA on Sunday, January 19, 2003
I put my email address on some bookcrossing labels as an experiment in case people would rather send email than go to the web site. Here's the message I received:

"I picked up the book in November from the Dessert Tray, but haven't had time to read it yet between looking for a job, Thanksgiving, looking for a job, Christmas, looking for a job. And, finally, landing a good job! Yahoo!!

When I finish it, I would like to pass it on to a good friend of mine who will be visiting from Mexico. If she doesn't get here by this spring, I will return it to the dessert tray.

I read The Bluest Eye and liked it very much.

Technically, I am Portland but on the Beaverton border."

Journal Entry 5 by Diane-Powers from Beaverton, Oregon USA on Sunday, June 1, 2003
I pickup up the Book at The Dessert Tray in Beaverton (see Journal entry #4). I have now finished it and will return it to the Dessert Tray. I didn't enjoy it as much as her first book, The Bluest Eye. I came away from The Bluest Eye with some food for thought. I didn't bring that much away from Beloved. However, I find it extremely difficult to read about the cruelties inflicted on slaves. Toni Morrison is an excellent and very creative writer. Diane Powers
