I finished this while on vacation in Brunswick, Maine. I did love this book, but not as much as I loved Norwegian Wood, the first book I read by Murakami. I liked the beginning much more than the ending. The beginning felt very dreamlike and mysterious. There were a lot of loose ends which I hoped would be tied up at the conclusion. I guess most of them were eventually tied up but in a very strange way. There was also way too much war talk for me. I'm normally not that squemish but there were parts of this book that I really had trouble with. All in all, though, it was definitly worth reading but will probably not go down as my favorite Murakami book. My friend, ancoraimparo, bought this and let me read it first so I will be sending it back to her soon!
